Thinking about replacing a 17 in CRT in a gameking with a LCD. Is it a easy swap?
Is it possible to replace it with a 19 in LCD?
-
Yes. Remove the CRT, drop in the LCD, and change the monitor bezel on the door.
There are two different types, 19 pin and 25 pin. Make sure you get the correct one for your machine.
I've never seen a 19" LCD installed in a 17" cabinet. I don't think it would fit without some custom engineering.
-
I assume the LCD comes with the brackets and power supply?
here is a pic of the plug. looks like a 19 pin
-
No brackets are required, just the door bezel. The LCD gets it's power from that the same connector that the CRT does. Yes, that looks like a 19pin connector to me.
-
You might want to try contacting Ken at Ohio Gaming.. He had some 17" LCD monitor assemblies with door bezel for sale a while back, but I don't know if he still has any for sale.. I bought one, very nice.. Just a plug and play conversion.. Hardest part is changing the door bezel, just a few screws.. Then adj the clearance between the LCD screen and bezel when the door is closed.. That's done with the stop screw on the cabinets shelf after you loosen the nuts under the monitors shelf.. sounds like a lot of work, but take 30 min or less..

actually I recounted the pins. Look like I have a 17 pin.
here is the pic closed up
Didnt know they made 17 pins
-
That is considered a 19 pin connection. LCDs might only have 15 male pins.
PM sent on LCD.

It is a 19 pin connector populated with 17 pins. Count the holes, not the pins.
-
Im confused now.
I had 2 different slot repair places here telling me it wont work and one said
044 uses 19 pin
3902 uses 17 pin
-
3902 boards are usually 19 pins but I have seen plenty with 25 pins from the casinos. 044 I have only seen with 25 pins from casinos. The 25 pin set ups will have the 4th column empty.
3902 and 044 games work with 19 or 25 pin monitors.
25 pin on left and 19 on the right in picture.
-
here is a pic of the plug in the back of the machine. I counted 17 connectors in there with 2 holes that are empty
I asked another slot dealer here in houston. He said nope for the 19 pin connector LCD
-
That is a 19 pin connector in your picture.
Are you saying that a dealer in Houston says that you don't have a 19 pin connector? or that you can't use a 19 pin with an 044? or you can't use a LCD with a 19 pin connector?
-
dealer saying that I have a 17 pin and wont be able to use a 19 pin lcd.
2 of them said that
one of them actually told me to contact Ken for the LCD and it is the same one telling me that it wont work
I have the 3902 board
-
I counted 17 connectors in there with 2 holes that are empty
Correct.. 17 used, plus 2 empty equals = 19. It's not the number of wires or connectors in the plug, but the total number of usable holes.

They are wrong and you can tell them I said so.
A 19 pin LCD might have 15 male pins whereas a CRT has 17 male pins. Not all the pins are used. I don't have any 19 pin LCDs to go and verify the number of male pins. There are members here that have purchased 19 pin LCDs from me and they work in their machines. 3902 or 044 will work with 19 or 25 pin connectors.
Ceronix monitors have to be set to digital for 044 games.
-
I am one of those people that bought both a 19" & a 25 pin LCD from Ken. They both work perfect in my machines. :soapbox_3:

I was just confused why none of the dealers here will sell a lcd to me saying it will not work.
I sent a email to Ceronix about the issue
here is my question and reply from Lisa
Hello
I have a 3902 game king upright with a 17 in crt. The crt went out and been looking for a replacement monitor. The plug has 17 pins. I was wondering if a 19 pin lcd or crt witll fit for the replacement. I been getting different answers from slot repair places. one says it will work, others say it wont work and I need to get a 17 pin.
Can you help clarify? Will a 17 in 19 pin LCD work? I attached a pic of the plug
response
Hi there! Yes, a LCD with a 19 pin connector will replace your CRT with a 17 PIN connector J
So what the heck is going on with the dealers here? ???
-
Sounds like other than Ken, you are talking to people who either counted the actual pins or only read the specs. I've never seen a plug made for only 17 pins. They make 19 or 25 and then just use what's needed. That's how they keep costs down across the industry, one part for 50 uses
-
This is what your response from Lisa said and looks like to me...

I gaurenttee if you bought a brand new Ceronix LCD from Lisa that you would find that the plug only has about 15 wires in the 19 hole plug.
So your choices are spend $500 from Ceronix after taxes and shipping, or buy a good used one from a Vender like Ken at Ohio Gaming.. I know of only 2 types of plugs used in the 17" cabinets. That is a 19 and a 25.

Your dealers don't know what the hell they're talking about...that's what's going on. As had been stated repeatedly there are two types of monitor connectors for IGT Game King/I-game's. 19 pin or 25 pin. You determine which one you have by the total number of pins the connector supports, not the number actually installed (populated) Count all the holes, even the empty ones and you will have either 19 or 25. Then get a monitor with the matching connector (19 pin or 25 pin) and you will be all set.
Ken's photo shows where it can be even more confusing for some people. If you look at his 25 pin connector in the photo, it actually only has 19 pins in it. Some people will want to say they have a 19 pin connector because of that, but you don't you have a 25 pin connector that has 19 pins populated. Buy the wrong (19 pin) monitor and guess what, it won't fit. This isn't rocket science.
As Amechanic check with Ken, he may still have some good used LCD's for sale.
-
Sold the last of them last night. I hope to get more down the road but for now ... I am out of them.
-
Thanks for the update Ken
there is a another dealer I contacted. They said they have the LCD and the Crt that will work(surprisingly only dealer that said so) that are both 19 pin for sale
the prices she gave me was 300 for the LCD and 175 for the Crt.
Should I pull the trigger or wait????
-
I don't know when I will have one available. Could be next week or a few months from now.
You also need the monitor bezel that mounts on the door for the LCD too. See if that is included. I sold LCDs w/bezels for 200 plus shipping. Maybe I was too cheap?
-
Ken did you ever receive any more of the LCD's for the game kings?
-
Sorry .. don't have any right now.
