Title: Magic Respins Video Slot
Post by: ramegoom on May 28, 2014, 06:44:10 PM
Still trying to find ANYONE who is familiar with this machine. I found a bad EPROM on the CPU board, so it's dead in the water until I can find one. Hoping someone out there has seen one of these or preferably, has one in their collection that actually works.

Bump for another round of "does anyone have one of these machines?". Still looking for the H5 EPROM, otherwise, I'm going to tear this machine down and make it into a Coors Bowling countertop machine. All I need to do is add the trackball - somehow.

Thanks for any leads.

Rare bird for sure.  Who is the manufacturer?  Is there a serial number tag or anything on or inside the cabinet?

It was manufactured by Thomas Automatics, Inc. in early 1980. They must not have been around too long, and really can't find anything of any use to get this up and running. The 13 in. CRT monitor works fine, the power supply works fine, but the screen is blank, and one of the EPROMs won't read in my burner. I'm thinking that's the likely problem. But try to find anything regarding the programs, forget it.

So the next step is to gut it and start over. It's a nicely built oak case, heavy machine, and was probably an expensive piece back then. "For Amusement Only" far as I can tell.

It appears some of the internal components had been made in England, as many of the ICs are "house-numbered" TTL style chips with Made In England on the printing. However, the company, Thomas Automatics, Inc. was a company based in Santa Clara CA. Long since gone, and virtually no data available except for this brochure. Also, it has a quarter coin entry and no jackpot payout. Check out the double-talk on this sales brochure, as insists the machine "...absolutely cannot be used as a gambling slot machine" in one paragraph, yet it states "Wins can be collected or gambled by playing a special and unique Shell game...".
