Title: Button Lighting replacement
Post by: Toyguy on April 29, 2018, 08:33:29 PM

How do you get to the bulbs on small buttons like Cash Out on an early S+?  I can't quite see how to access them.

Thanks!
Dave

I finally figured out how to get to the bulbs on the buttons.  No wonder it doesn't work, it's empty  :Tongue_Out:

So the next question is two-fold:  What type of bulb are these little guys and where's a good place to get them?

Thanks!

OK, looks like #86 mini wedge.  My usual pinball suppliers have those!  I think I'll even try some LEDs and see how they look.

Leds work great, it makes your buttons look white instead of that unsightly yellow hue. Make sure you get 6 volt leds.

Rick is right, LED's can really dress-up a machine. Be careful though, some styles of LED's can short out things, I think it has to do with how the leads are wrapped around the base of the bulb so they are on both sides of the base. And it depends on the lamp socket type that the slot machine uses. There are discussions here on NLG about LED's, in general you want to get the type that have the lead that doesn't wrap around. You can probably look at a bulb in your machine and see how its leads are done. Notice the difference in the LED base leads in photos below.

Excellent info -never would have thought about the lead positioning on the LEDs.

Also of note, on traditional upright S+ machines, there is no light bulb wiring going to the "Service" (or "Call Attendant"/"Change") button that turns on the top light on the candle on the machine.  You can put a bulb in the button all day long and it won't do anything.  :propeller:

Yep, my Change button actually doesn't even have a place for a light.  The labeling on it is gone though, so I'm trying to locate a replacement.  Failing that I will put a clear decal on it.

By spreading the leads a little I got the Cash Out light to come on.  That trick didn't work with the Bet 1 Credit button so I'll have to wait until the new bulbs arrive to clean that one up.
