Title: igt Reel Touch comm link failure
Post by: Isaywhat2 on August 08, 2018, 10:51:33 AM
My frog prince game constantly reboots itself. Sometimes the reels turn properly but video display does not change. Often get a time date needs to be reset and get comm link failure or video display error. Any ideas??

Is this an I-game or a Reel Touch machine?

Picture would help. Assuming this is a Reel Touch machine the battery in the top box probably needs to be replaced.
Open the top box and replace the coin battery.
Now you will need an old computer ps2(small purple plug) type keyboard plug it into the side of the top box.
Turn on the machine and keep pressing the delete key on the keyboard until the bios screen appears on the top box.
Set the time and date and then save "Optimized Defaults "
After saving turn off, unplug keyboard and you should be back in operation.

Thanks Rich for you response .Yes it is a reel touch and I do have a new battery in the top box and I have reset date and time a number of times only to have it all start all over. It sometimes works fine for a brief time but always back to the problems.

This type of issue is usually a poor connection somewhere.
The good news is that usually not a part issue bad news is it takes a long time to find it.
Start with the top box. Reseat all of the plugs going to the back of the top box check for any burned plugs.
Then reseat the memory sticks in the top box.
Try and see what happens.
Next reseat all of the plugs going to the backplane board and  the multi colored ribbon going to the middle supply on the bottom.
On really rare cases the hardrive is starting to go bad.
Or the MPU is giving up (Usually enhanced boards)
Let us know how it goes.
