Title: Game King 6.0 touch screen communication failure
Post by: shortrackskater on November 27, 2018, 05:29:56 PM
Upon boot up I get a touch screen error on the LCD screen. If I key it to calibrate, the proper screen will appear but no dot.
BUT... If I wait about 20 minutes the dots show up. Then I can complete calibration, and the machine will work.
If I power off and back on, it will work again.
If I power off and wait longer, I have to go back through the 20 minute long wait.
Otherwise the machine will work fine. I've checked the cables/connectors and don't see anything obvious. I checked NLG before posting. There's "sort of a similar" issue but their machine didn't work at all whereas mine will eventually.

I've encountered that once but I didn't wait to see if it would work later. Swapped the MPU & the issue went away. Hope yours isn't going bad. I will be watching this thread for developments. Might learn something. Don't have that much experience with the I Game platform. Good luck!

Sounds like a thermal intermittent problem.  Let it warm up and it works, cool off and it doesn't.  It could be the touchscreen controller, another netplex device (ticket printer, or bill validator) or the MPU board itself.  I'd try swapping the easy netplex devices first, bill validator and ticket printer and see if that clears it up.

I replaced the bill validator with a good one and got the same results. I'll find a printer and try that soon!

You can just temporarily disconnect the existing one and see if it clears.

Pulled the plug on the printer and got the same thing!

So much for the easy fixes then  :duh: .  Do you have a spare touchscreen controller board?

No... I sold it to you!  :rotfl:
I can message Kristal at Slot Rush... they've likely got one and they give me good deals.

Doh!  :duh: :duh:

Yeah, they're good folks.  I just got a new topper insert from her today as a matter of fact.

May have to post in WTB. Not hearing from them.
I hope it is the controller. It still will work while I wait for the dot! Takes about 10 to 15 minutes, then it shows up. I can calibrate and machine will work fine until I power off overnight.

I heard back but Slot Rush doesn't have a Digitec TS controller for me to try.
I hope this is my problem. I just don't know enough about these...
The problem still exists but will resolve each time. If I boot up, I get the error message I wrote earlier. I then key it to calibrate the screen. The dots will appear now in as little as a minute or long as 20. I can calibrate and the machine will work fine until I power off.

Yeah, that's pretty odd.  I can dig around and see if I have an extra one to send you to try if you like.

Sorry for the delay, got caught up with Santa Claus stuff.  I wasn't able to find an extra touchscreen controller card.  I guess I must have installed it in a game.  The ones I do have in games are all Microtouch controllers, not sure if they would be compatible with Digitech anyhow.

That's okay - I've had a nasty cold that's ended in laryngitis for nearly four days. I can finally grumble out words today.
That's all the Kristal had too.
Thanks for checking.
I guess I'll post in WTB. I hope this is the problem and that I'm not going to be shotgunning part$.

Thanks to SlotspotAZ I got a replacement TS controller and that solved the problem.  One thing I noticed was that when I did the calibration with the replacement, was that the response time was instant, whereas with the old one (which would work after about 30 minutes of being powered on) there was about a half second lag before I'd get the tone for each dot. I wish I had the test equipment to troubleshoot the faulty board.
Anyway, my Game King is up and running great.

Glad to hear it’s fixed. Waiting for my replacement LCD Monitor to arrive for my GK from them. Buying a Ceronix this time. No more Kortek crap for me. 🤨

My last Kortek went to the recycling center!
