Title: Alpha Elite S9000 failure after battery change
Post by: dailey on January 23, 2019, 02:52:27 PM

The other day my slot failed to boot and indicated a low battery. I just replaced the battery on the MPU (CR2477N) and the back plane (CR2032). Now when I power up it doesn't complete the boot process and indicates a fatal error,  NVRAM DRIVER MOUNT FAILURE.  When I turn the key to reboot it still hangs up at this point with the same message.

What should I do next ? Do I need to clear ? I have a clear card But I forgot the procedure.

Gotta love these Alphas.  Yes, every time batteries are changed, you must do a clear, and then set up your game and you will be good to go.  Seems like the batteries die on mine every two years or so, likely from being turned off most of the time.

Do I remove the two existing cards and put the clear card into top slot ? I never worked on an Alpha before.

Yes, remove the cf card, and put the clear cf in the top slot, boot the machine, clear and power down.  Replace the cards OS on top, game on the bottom, and go through the setup procedure.  There are some setup videos on youtube if you have never done it.

Power the machine down, and replace the operating system card with the clear card.  Do not put it in the slot where the game card goes.  Power back up, after a brief loading session, it will instruct you to turn the jackpot reset key to clear everything.  I usually turn the key a 2nd time, just to be sure everything is cleared.  Now, power down, and remove/replace clear card with operating system card.  The machine will boot up but will have to be set up, and you are good to go.  There are some good manuals and info out there on setup.  Maybe check the NLG files for an instructional on setting your game up.   If your existing game has progressives, that is a bigger pain in the ass to set up.  No progressive, pretty quick and easy.

Haha, Rick and I must have been typing at the same time.  Good idea he has, check Youtube for setup videos.  It gets pretty easy after you do it a couple times.  :-)

Yes These can be a PITA. Ist time I tried setting these up with a progressive it took me 10 or more tries. If you happen to set 1 wrong setting your back to clearing and starting over. If you don't have a progressive its a bit easier. Good Luck

I finally got my machine running again !!!!!!!

If I really knew what I was doing it should have taken about 5 minutes to get back up and running. As it was it took about 3 hours. I viewed a youtube video which made restoring the settings fairly easy except for one small difference in my menu causing me to miss several settings. I think I'll document everything to make it easier next time. I can see that practice would help.

Glad you got it. Definitely note all the settings. I do that with every Alpha that I set up. Makes it a whole lot easier the next time.
