Title: EM 1088-21
Post by: rjpohl on September 18, 2019, 07:33:30 AM
I've got this machine to the point where it accepts coins, handle pulls, reels spin and stop, it pays off too!!!

couple problems:
1.  It's a nickle machine (by coin acceptor and belly glass) but top payout glass says payouts re in $'s.  Do I have the right glass???

2. The light on reels glass in center behind the 5 cent sticker blinks, couple seconds off then off for split second

3.  Deposit coin and coin accepted lights do not work (have tested bulbs and they are good.

4.  Coil behind coin comparator says pulled in and is buzzing fairly loud.

thanks
Bob

When the machine pays out, do you get the correct $ Amount? It might say $2 and pay off in 40 nickles. $$$$$$ seems to get peoples attention more than $.05

Do the coins fall into the hopper when they are put into the machine? Or do they fall into the chute and go into the stand below? I have a 1090-10 and my coil is picked up and my coins are delivered to the hopper.

If the coil is noisy, I believe that I would kill power and then operate the coil manually and make sure that there isn't any dirt lodged in the pivot point of the coil...Power it up and see if it's better...

I can get you the info on the part number for the glass, I think...   Your Number of "1088-1-922" doesn't seem to fit into the database info I have. The Bally 1088 only had 17 iterations, 1088 thru 1088-16. All were quarter or dollar, but 1088-11 paid 5dm (Deutsche Marks, I believe).   If you have a different number post it and I will check and see what glass you might need...

Bill in Spokane...

attached is pic of tag,
Model 1088-21
Payouts are more like 1 coin for each dollar.  The payout for  cherry ????   ????? says $2 but will pay out 2 or 3 nickles.

The Bally Database that I have doesn't go "21". I was hoping that the data base would give you the info you are after.

Your pay out make it seem like its a dollar machine.

Did you find any Model numbers on parts inside the machine?

I suspect that someone rebuilt the machine by changing the few parts that can convert machine from $1 to $.05.

Maybe one of the "Masters of Bally" will chime in an answer some of you answers...

I set it up for 2 coin 3 oranges payout ($10).  It paid out 11 nickles.  My guess is this machine has the wrong top glass.  Instead of $2 pauout it should say 2 coins.
thanks

Bob.. If you look at the top of your payout glass it does say dollars. So I believe that’s a converted Dollar slot. Does your coin wheel in the hopper look like it’s for a nickel slot or dollar coins?

Gary, you may be right, the hopper does have a dollar pin wheel and a nickle shelve wheel.  The coin head and belly glass are Nickle.  I think the guy will be want it to remain a nickle machine, he can probably doctor up the top glass or maybe get lucky and find the right one.

Still have problem with no insert coin or coin accepted lights.  I've cleaned all switches, I traced wires from light sockets back to left side of reel assemble and they are good.  The winner paid light also doesn't work.  Could there be a common link/problem for these??

thanks
Bob

Insert Coin, Coin Accepted and Winner Paid lights all working now.  I believe it was mostly dirty Beau Plugs (on hopper and reel assemble).  I scrapped them best I could and as right now they are working as they should.

Center light behind 5 cent decal on solid now.  I replaced bulb, maybe there is a bulb that blinks light that on purpose.

I need to work on the payout now, it's paying 1 extra coin most of the time. Not sure if the dollar pin wheel would have any affect on it or not???

Thanks for all the help.
Bob

If your paying 1 extra coin on all payout, then I would assume the zero stop bumpers worn down, and is allowing the spiral cam to come back a little too far. You can try to raise the zero bumper a 1/4 turn at a time. Have you checked the operation and condition of the hoppers motor brake. I have seen the plastic stop on the motors armature worn round allowing it to skip.
