Title: Bally Roaring 20's S5500 Trouble Shooting Assistance Needed Please
Post by: DirtinLa on September 30, 2019, 03:10:30 PM
A short history. This was a neighbors machine which I fixed back in 2017. Put a Battery pack on the MPU reset the jumper and they were back in Business. (thank you NLG).

BTW, it's a progressive machine that was working fine as a standalone. I have no idea if the progressive was active or not.

Well she called wanting to sell it. She said it was basically doing what it was doing the last time i worked on it. So I bought it sight unseen and got it this weekend.

The battery on the board still has 3.69V. I have a video on youtube showing exactly what it is doing at startup https://youtu.be/-EtpXrQJkWQ (https://youtu.be/-EtpXrQJkWQ)  https://youtu.be/-EtpXrQJkWQ (https://youtu.be/-EtpXrQJkWQ)

Those of you who do not have the time to view the 2 minute video here is basically what is going on:

Powers up the lights
Static coming from the speakers
There is a circuit board on the left of the reels with a flashing red light
Circuit breakers did nothing
Occasional faint  pulsating in payout but unreadable So no codes
Coins drop right thru
Does a diagnostic on the LED Display then says C10 $0.00
All of the diagnostic buttons not working "reset" etc.
Reels don't even tremble or spin for that matter.

I do not have a set of clear chips for the s5500 But not certain I need them?

I am suspecting the powersupply?

Long story short I have no idea where to begin...  LOL when I got my first EM Pinball they told me on the forums that I need to clean and set all 10,000 switches and I didn't believe

them. I reset every swith no less than 4 times... guess I learned my lesson.

here's the video link again as well as pics of the machine:

I want to thank those who help me and I will be certain to post how it was finally fixed as that is another one of my pet peves.

In the lower part of the cabinet,  behind the coin hopper, mounted on the back wall is a silver box with holes.  That is your power supply. Common failure part. Take it out and there is a removable and replaceable power board.  The vendors on NLG have these available.
The display with C10 message is a progressive display.  It is a separate piece of Hardware that has nothing to do with the functionality of the machine.  Replace the power supply and it should be good to go.

Well the new power supply arrived and was installed tonight

I am happy to report after several human errors the machine is up and running perfect!

Step one install new Mean Well PT 65-b Power Supply module. Plug and play BTW

Step two Be certain your MPU is inserted all the way or you will think and troubleshoot for 3 hours thinking your PS is bad

Step three Clear correctly your 83F code even with 95000 chips no clear chips were necessary. Jump the pins turn off the

machine then hold the test and pseudo switches together til you get an all clear code. Turn back off and unjump the pins. Do

not try 100 resets holding the psuedo and reset switches like I did.

Step four Watch as it fires up then gives you code 54 door is open. Trouble shoot your switches for an hour to realise that the

bill door along side the machine is hanging wide open...  LOL shaking my head.  Close the doors stupid!

Step five put in your first quarter and watch it go!!!!  SWEEEEETTT

I can't thank everyone enough for the assistance! awesome as always...

Kewl machine and the girl has a thing for the dolphin handle...  smh LOL
