Title: New Machine - Need help please
Post by: TopDogElec on October 16, 2019, 09:46:15 AM
Hello all,

I picked up on auction a slant top 12 Times Pay machine, from what I have read here I believe it to be an S2000 but not sure if it is a vision or not. It powers up but on the little display on the door it says "Display's NETPLEX link down" (pics attached). In the top box there is a gap where like a player tracker would go or a progressive display, have read that if it is a vision then a Spectrum(?) would go here? The bill acceptor does cycle and the 5-5-2 LED display does say "No Disp". So Im guessing that it doesn't see the display in the top box maybe?

I did notice one post about checking connections everywhere in the machine because that could cause a Netplex error, did not notice anything loose or not connected.

Any ideas? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a pic of the MPU in case anyone would ask. Let me know if you need close ups of it or not

That MPU looks pretty bad.
I would say remove the green Varta battery clean up the board and see what happens. I believe it's way too late for that. I can see green corrosion everywhere. Also check the coin battery voltage it should be above 2.9.You probably should be looking for a new mpu.

The MPU has a very serious corrosion problem !!!  Looks like the green varta battery has leaked all over. This may or may not be the cause of the Netplex Link Down but it is very serious.

I would start by removing that green battery. This battery is not needed for home use. Whenever I get a new machine, the first thing I do is remove this battery because sooner or later it will leak and destroy the board.
Clean the corroded areas of the board using a mild vinegar solution. The battery is alkaline so you need acid to neutralize, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water. When the board has thoroughly dried, try it again and go from here.

Thank you both, I will remove that battery and try to clean up the board and see what happens. After your responses I see what you mean, that corrosion looks pretty bad. Any idea where I can get a new MPU if needed, calssified maybe? What model MPU is this one? I'm not sure which sticker has the board number on it

Looks like the damage is too severe to fix, closer up it is everywhere and looks to have destroyed many traces. So looks like a replacement mpu is needed. Thanks for the help though
