Title: Bally E2000 code 71 reel #3 won't stop
Post by: ucanwin on July 16, 2014, 05:47:42 PM
I am having a problem with a Bally E2000 slot. Machine accepts coins and reels spin, #1 & #2 reels stop most of the time but #3 does not. This causes a tilt. Code either will show 71 or 42 or 43.  Occasionally all 3 reels will stop but if the door is opened, it still shows a code 71, never a 50. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :Scratch-Head:

The error code 71 is not necessarily a problem.  My guess is that your M1 - M3 Eproms are version 5.65-1 which
has the SDS, part numbers may be E755-49, E755-50 and E755-51. SDS is to allow network tracking of individual
slot machines. Using these eproms the door open is no longer 50 000 but is 70 000

The 42 or 43 errors are likely to be caused by a defective reel reader and it could be that both reel reader 2 and 3
are marginal. The voltage with the reel readers unblocked would be in the area or 3.14 volts and 0.2 volts with the optics
blocked from light. I have written test procedure for testing these cards and that information can be found on another
users website http://www.coinslots.com/product/repairs/repair-tips/ (http://www.coinslots.com/product/repairs/repair-tips/)

I also can do repairs on the Bally E series boards if my services are needed

Here are the E2000 error codes.
You probably have a bad reel reader.
Swap reel reader #2 with #3 and see if the problem moves.

Thank you, for your tips. My brother has a similar working machine so we'll do some swapping to isolate the problem. When we find out what is bad, I'll be in touch.

Make sure the reel readers are the same before swapping,
you put a 5volt reader in a 50volt system and you'll start a
big mess. :banghead:

Another thing you may want to check, make sure all the mechanical parts of the reel assembly are lubricated and moving freely. The grease becomes stiff from age. If the parts function slowly due to the dried grease you could have errors such as 41, 42, and 43. The two black oxide cross shafts that the linkage is mounted on have to spin freely when you try to spin them with your fingers.

I had assumed that you ran test 5 but since it was not mentioned, you should run test 5 to test the reel readers.

During this test you will see a series of numbers starting with a 1 and then 3 to 5 characters after that so
would look similar to 1 C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 , where C= some character (number or letter) that corresponds to the
reel symbol. The 1 indicates payline one, if you have multiple paylines then toggling the coin switch will change
the first number to 2 - 3 - 4 or a 5 depending on how many paylines your machine has.

Proten posted the error codes but if your machine has the 5.65-1 version chips the error 70 indicates a door opened
last, if it were a spinning after index error this version would show an 81 error code. Error codes 41 through 45 (improper spin) would be the same for both version 5.65 and 5.65-1.

Also check the 2 door switches one of which is behind the hinge
