Title: Stumped by Fluorescent Lights (I-Game)
Post by: Riclemenza on July 23, 2014, 03:49:09 PM
Hi, everyone.  Looking for a little help...I'm stumped.   I have an IGT I-Game (Texas Tea), with the rounded top.
A few weeks ago, the fluorescent bulbs suddenly stopped working...both of them at the same time...the bulb behind the belly glass and the one in the top.
I have replaced both ballasts to no avail.  I've also replaced the little power distribution board which sits right below the ballast in the top.  Still no lights.   Any ideas what to try next?  Everything else seems to be working fine....just no fluorescents.  :Scratch-Head:
Thanks.

You probably need to replace the power supply. The fluorescent lights use 24 volts.
Check for power going to the ballasts.

Also check the green ground cables next to the ballasts to make sure they are tight to the metal cabinet.

New power supply box ordered.   Will check the wires, too.
Thanks!
So, the power supply box can 'partially' go bad?...it still powers on the machine just fine.

Do you happen to have a spare Power Disturbution Unit? I believe that is what runs the 120v in the game. The power supply handles the smaller voltages...

Here's a pic of the one I'm referring to, not the little green board, but the unit itself.

No, I don't have a spare, but I can certainly order one if you think this is the problem.

Well, if you have a power supply on the way, then try that first as others have suggested. Personally, I am hesitant to think the power supply is the problem if it the game is playing normally. We'll see when you replace yours though! Hopefully we can both learn something!

Absolutely!  I will try the one that's on the way first & let you know.

:Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:  When I have a light quit working around here, I don't start trouble shooting the breaker panel, I start with a new light bulb.

Replacing the bulb was the first thing that was tried.  Since both bulbs went out at the same exact moment, it was obvious that the problem was a bit more complex.

FYI: 24VDC powers the Ballasts (light tubes), Sound Amp, and Stepper Motors (Reels if the game has them). If you have Sound, your 24VDC is probably ok. Check around door hinges, etc for unplugged (or barely hanging on) connectors. Check the pins at your PS to be sure none are burned (or browning). Of course, measure for 24VDC at the ballast to start off with, then follow the wires/harness down the line to the PS.

Hope this helps....

And unplug each ballast, only one at a time, and see if the one still plugged in comes on. Make sure you unplug the input and not the output. You may have a bad ballast
