Post by: Mitchd on March 18, 2020, 10:48:15 AM

    • Jameco Part no.: 323695
    • Manufacturer: MEAN WELL (https://www.jameco.com/shop/StoreCatalogDrillDownView?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&refineType=String&sub_attr_name=Manufacturer&refineValue=MEAN%20WELL&from=mflisting)
    • Manufacturer p/n: RQ-85D

Is suppose to be a replacement for those older power supplies?

Anyone has done this and if so please send picture of the wiring.

    Thanks

some docs I have say the bally power supply is similar to a PX125-45 power supply which can provide a combined max of 130W of power with power rail specs:

    5V: 2A min, 15A max
    12V : 0.8A min, 4A max
    -12V : 0A min, 0.8A max
    24V : 1A min, 4A max

did you look for bulging electrolytic capacitors in your supply?

I probably have the bally 5000/5000+ service/training manuals someplace that has info on troubleshooting the power supply ... if your inclined to mess with it.   Otherwise, maybe the vendors like KLAR have a replacement ready to drop in?

    Hello Wolftalk.
Thanks for replying back. I look online and was not able to find the similar power supply you mention and I did notice the capacitors is lifted and look little damage. I have already put an order in for mean well RQ-85D through Amazon and there were 2 review mentioning  it work on the bally 5000 plus slot. Hope it works.

btw, do you have video reels or hardware reels ... what's the full model number of the game?

another section of a manual for the video machines says the bally power supply for the V5000 series has these specs:

    5V: 1A min, 5A max
    12V : 0.5A min, 4A max
    -12V : 0A min, 0.8A max
    24V : 1A min, 4A max

again, combined power max on all rails = 130W.  Guess that's why they said the PX125-45 is similar ... and probably what they actually used or the mfg made them for bally.  Main diff on the bally is much lower rated current spec on the 5V rail.

the current on the 24V rail may be a problem for the RQ-85D.   'course, nobody specifies a power supply max current near the sustained current they require, and the ps manufacturers don't make them to blow up when you go slightly over the limit :-)

In this case tho, the rated current of the RQ-85D is the minimum current bally specified, so you'd likely be exceeding the RQ-85D rated current most the time.  The RQ-85D spec sheet says it'll do ~1.5A on the 24V rail.

I think I'd go with the RQ-125D, source a replacement bally supply, or poke around aliexpress.com looking for supplies with higher current on the 24V rail.

anyway, I'm cleaning up the bally fo-5201 "5000+ video servicing and troubleshooting" manual today.  A pdf should be available for free download on http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/ (http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/) by tomorrow.   If it helps ya out, consider a small donation to the newlifegames guys (I'm not one of them).

I'll try and get the "fo-5000-1 - training and troubleshooting" manual for the reel version done as well.

    look in http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots (http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots)

    in bally_manuals is a "bally fo-5000-1 rev a - 5000plus training and troubleshooting.pdf" file.

one of the the power supply diagram/schematics is marked up with some higher voltage rated capacitors.  If you wind up repairing yours, going to higher voltage caps of the same farad rating is fine assuming the new ones fit in the space.

the manual has info on two different supplies.

I have 4-5 other documents for the 5000 series machines - operator instructions, parts, etc.  I'll try and get them processed over the next few days.  The will all start with "bally fo-5" in the file listing.

I hate to be a party pooper here, but this subject belongs in another topic area under Bally Reel Games not Bally EM's
