Title: Board battery

Just a quick dumb question, does the battery drain faster if I turn the machine off?

Yes, but the cost of the battery vs the cost of operating the machine 24/7 is worth the battery change every few years on the S+.  The next time it needs replacing, you can put a battery holder, so you don't have to solder to change batteries anymore.

My personal S+ uses a two AA battery holder held to the circuit board with a simple plastic zip tie.
It has much more battery capacity than the little round coin cell holders and lasts way longer.

I installed one of these about 15 years ago on a board that I found on a shelf collecting dust and when I installed it into my test machine, the credits that were on the game were STILL there!
Plus the cost of a couple AA batteries is far cheaper than the coin cell batteries.
