Title: Double Diamond Tournament Error 21
Post by: EGuy1999 on August 02, 2020, 01:19:30 PM
Hey Everyone,

I just came into possession of an old double diamond that is "set to tournament mode but not working". I have no prior experience working on slot machines so I thought it'd be a fun challenge. Oh boy was I wrong. After replacing the battery on the board, error 21 was thrown at me. I know this is a coin optics error, but I'm very confused because this machine has no coin or bill mechanisms and should only use credits(?). Is there anyway that I can set my slot to "tournament mode" so I can just hit the button over and over again to spin? I'm giving this machine to my grandma as a gift, so I want it to be as simple for her as possible.

I've uploaded a few pictures as a starting point, if you need any more I'd be happy to help. Thanks again.

P.S: The entire jackpot key mechanism is missing, so for the time being I've just been using a copper wire to jump the connections and simulate a key turn. I'm getting a new mechanism soon.

You probably have to enable tournament mode for the machine to do anything since it has been stripped of all coin/currency equipment.  Unfortunately, your SP446 chip is so old, I don't have the information on how to enable the tournament mode.  The closest I have is SP811, but it is so much newer than yours that the information does not apply to your chip.

Ah okay. It least it seems like I'm on the right track. Thanks for your help.

Edit: Would it be worth it/would it be even possible to switch out the chips for something that's easier to work with? Or should I just keep trying with the SP446.  I have no experience with slots so I'm not sure what my best course of action would be

Switching chips is easy. I would lean on switching the chip for something more modern.  Like I said I have documentation for SP811. I'm sure somebody has the SP811 chip around, or can make one up for you.
