Title: IGT S+ Slot Error
Post by: ljwayne5451 on January 13, 2021, 03:03:43 PM
Good afternoon, I have an S+ and just got the game and reel Eproms. Installed the clear chip first and the slot stepped through the count up twice as it should. Removed it from the Game socket and installed the game chip. When the slot comes on i get an error 61 and if I press the white test button I get a sound and the error shows 61(space)1 and the candle White is slow flash and the blue is fast flash. I thought this was an indication of the Door Open but I don't see a problem with the optics. Is there a way to bypass the door optics just to see if it is a problem? Is there something else that could cause this? By the way this is my first S+ so I still have things to learn. I do have a service manual.

Just a note: it also shows in the errors legend that an error code 61 is a Cmos error But I don't think that is it based on the candle signal. OR??

thanks
Larry

With the 61-1 close door, then turn reset key one time.  This should clear the 61-1

With the door open, press the test button again.

You should get [65-1], then close the door.

With 65-3 you should close door, turn reset key. Then you probably get another error code. Then press reset button a few seconds

OK thanks for that, It now says to insert coin but does not accept coins and has a 42 in the winner paid Which I think is a reel tilt, is that correct?

Thanks for the help, looks like I have a reel #2 problem the other 2 move upon reset and the #2 does not move at all. Checking the connections.

Thanks for the error list too!! I will just stick at it to see what I can do

make sure you don't have something rubbing against the reel.  You can also swap reel 1 and 2 to see of the problem follows the reel.

OK, I swapped the reels #1 and #2 and the #2 worked in position #1 so its not the reel assembly. So something is wrong elsewhere. Any ideas on what to check next?

thanks for your assistance, its getting there

Thank you

The pins in that #2 harness....a pin might be pushed out?

with machine off try spinning the 2nd reel, is there some thing rubbing against it?  also with door closed look in through glass and see if any wires for light might b hanging down and rubbing on reel.  Even a loose sticker can cause the error.

Hi, reel moves freely, when I swap the reels the problem stays with the second position so its not the reel assembly. The pins for reel 2 look good and I checked the plugs at the mb. I pulled them, checked them and re connected. The problem stays with second reel position. I am not sure what I should do next. Trace all the wires to back to the mb? I don't see any type of damage to the wires or any pins. I have a feeling it may be at the mb or the MPU. What do you think?
This is a Triple Diamond Slot 1994

Just so you know the reel motor does work as the reel sitting is locked in place. It just does not spin
Could the REEL CHIP be bad!!!!

thanks

Down to a couple of things now....
Gently lift off the reel chip out of it's socket on the MPU....are there any folded under legs?
The 2nd thing involves the 2nd reel driver chip onboard but isn't in a socket - it's soldered to the MPU.

So which are the driver chips on the board?

Here's a video I made replacing one of the reel driver chips on an S+ MPU...>>>

Also on the corner of the MPU there are 5 resistors as technically the S+ could be a 5 reel system.
The first 3 would appear a bit more heat scorched than 4 & 5 as they are not used.
You could take resistor 5 (not needed) and replace resistor 2.

I think it has been narrowed down to a bad reel driver. Ordered socket and chip. I will install the socket for future replacement.

Thanks for your help. I will let you know if that solves the problem
