Just found an old IGT S+ Balloon Bars 3 coin machine in a friend's attic.....I have worked on it all day but ran into the following problems...I read this forum first but could not find the answers....Any help is appreciated...
Problem #1 - When I put coins into the machine it will only accept 3 at a time....the rest fall through and do not add as credits...I replaced the coin comparitor...How do I get the coins to add...??..Is it a settings issue?
Problem #2 - When the payline hits a winning combination...the sounds will not stop and the credits do not add. Now, I am turning the reset key to turn the sound off..but the credits are still not added...
Problem #3 - When I hit the white test button and close the door and turn the reset key...Numbers like 01, 02 etc appear in the Winners Paid Box and in the Credit Box...other numbers appear...I think this is how to set up the options but I am not sure....I could not find any listing of the codes and how to set-up these options....?....I do not think they are error codes?
Problem #4 - I removed and cleaned the Bill Acceptor...it lights internally and when the machine is turned on, it goes through the sounds of moving its gears..however...it does not light up like in the S2000 machines and it will not accept any bills??.....
I would appreciate any help....Also, it is a round top and the glass is missing...Does anyone have a lead on where I can purchase one...?? Thanks again...

When you push the test button you need to keep the door open. Each push of the button changes the test page. When you find an option you want to change use the spin reels to change. When you push the test button twice I think you will have a 2 or 5 in the far left window. Turn the key until you get to 9 in that window. It should show 9-0 or 9-1 if it shows 9-1 the bill acceptor is turned on. If not you will need a set chip. I am not aware of S+ being able to stack credits by feeding extra coins. Usually accept max bet then all others fall thru. Snap a picture of your bill acceptor, cash can, etc.

Problem #1 - That is normal, an S+ will not accept anymore coins than allowed in a single spin. There's a way to change that behavior, but it requires a specific SP eprom and a special set chip. IGT calls it Euro or Montana styled credits. Most people don't bother and just use the bill validator to add a bunch of credits.
Problem #2 - I'm not sure I understand your explanation. If you are able to post a video of that symptom it would be easier to troubleshoot. The reset key does not turn off the sounds, it is mainly used to clear a handpay situation (whenever the win exceeds the credit limit on the machine). Also used during option changes, and to look at accounting and last spins information by the slot attendant.
Problem #3 If you have the door closed when you turn the reset key, the machine will go into attendant accounting mode, not able to setup any options. All option setup must be done with the door open, and NO credits on the machine.
Problem #4 Your bill validator may not be enabled.
Which glass piece are you missing the roundtop glass or the belly glass?

WTF happened??!?! I posted a almost identical response and it didnt post! Ip here I thought it was being really helpful, then POOF!, all gone! Oh well, looks like Rick addressed your issues
The machines not malfunctioning, just needs settings changed. Bottom line, we need to know your SP chip number. At that point we can provide you with the options sheet for it and guide you if needed.

Here are some of the answers to your questions.....
My internal chips are SS3999 and SP1160...
I turned the reset key as was recommended and I got a 9 -- 0 reading in the Winners Paid Box..
My bill acceptor is a DBV-200-SS...
I need the top round glass for the balloon bars machine....

You will need to get a BV set chip and following the instruction turn the BV on and set denom. to 5, 10, 25, 50 or $1. Most use 25 so 4 credits for a dollar. Or you can choose five cents and get 20 credits for the same dollar inserted. With your DBV 200 you will need OLD money. So go to your bank and find a clean small head 50, 100 or whatever. Hopefully you know how to remove and insert a chip. You will take the SP chip out and insert the set chip go thru instructions then replace SP chip. Be careful not to bend the legs on the chip. In the classified section you can place a WTB for a set chip. You should get a set and clear set. But NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use the clear unless someone on here say's to.

John, I will look and see about the glass you need. I know we have some Balloons and Bars, just not sure if they are round top, 16", or 9" if I find something, I will let you know. :cool_thumb_up:

When you do a clear, you have to set up ALL option again. Like when you win the win goes to credit not hopper pay and when you insert bill it goes to credits not hopper pay. Will have to set max. hopper pay, max. DBV limits, max. accumulated credits. A clear is usually the LAST thing you want to do as it put's machine into factory settings which are not so good for home use.

No. The S+ isn't terribly user-friendly, but once you figure out how the menus work it becomes pretty easy.
Do you have the "for rookies" guide created by r273 (available here (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=586.0))? If not, download that -- it will help make navigating the S+ menus a lot easier.

Thanks for your help....after taking several days to read through these sheets...I was able to make some changes on the machine. new fuses, new lights,....however..I still cannot enable the Bill Acceptor...I think I need to do a RAM Clear and I have a SET90 chip...Is that correct....?? I think I read that, that was the only way to get the Bill acceptor to be enabled...??? is that right?

If you do a clear you will have to reset all that you just did. Clear means clear. You need to use the set 90 chip turn machine back on push test button and 9--0 will be in window, use spin button to change to 9--1 DBV on. Next press test button again you will see 0 push spin button to get 5, 10, 25, 50 ect. push test button again. turn off machine and replace SP chip. DBV should now be enabled.

I took your advice and only used the Set Chip....I have most options/things working but I have run into a problem with the Bill Validator.....The lights work....money is accepted...but instead of going into credits..the hopper turns on and the quaters are sent to the coin tray...it pays out immediately.....Does anyone know how to fix this problem/option?...I know it can be done but after reading the sheets...I can not find a solution.....Thanks in advance....

Does your PSR have anything about "Cash to Credit" or "Coins to Credit" or "Player Initiated Credit"? I believe it's option 5-0, 5-1, or 5-2.
NEVER MIND!!! I'm thinking coins being dropped, not Bills from validator, sorry. :duh:

My machine is showing 5-1 (player-initiated on) and when I go to 8-0 (Bill Acceptor Pay Mode) shows 8-2 which is pays from hopper....I cannot change that to 8-1 which is bills to credit....I turn the reset key or push the white button but the 2 in the credit window will not change to a 1 and the Spin Reel button does not light up...Am I missing a step???

Bill Acceptor Pay Mode <0> [8]
The bill acceptor must be enabled with the set chip to change this option. Options are pay coins from the hopper {2}, convert bills to credits {1}, or follow the player-initiated credit {0}. If set to follow the player-initiated credit, bills are converted to credits if the player has selected the credit mode, or paid from the hopper if the player has selected the noncredit mode.
I was trying to cut and paste from the word document but it's getting all weird and won't work properly!

I used the set chip earlier today. to turn the Bill Validator on.....does this mean I must use it again to reset the options?

Yes you have to go back into that option to change it to "convert to credit" mode - you have to use the set chip again. Otherwise it will just cash out each time.

This should work for you.
•With the machine turned on and in idle mode, open the door press the white test button 2 times
•You should see "2 n" in the winner paid/credits windows, where n= 0 or 1. Press the spin button until it reads "2 1â€
This enables the spin sounds.
•Turn the jackpot key once. This advances through the setup sub-menu
•You should see "5 n" in the window, where n= 0 to 2. Press the spin button until it reads "5 0"
This will make all wins automatically go to the credit meter. You will not have to turn on the credit button before playing.
•Turn the jackpot key three times.
•You should see "8 n" in the window, where n= 0 to 2. Press the spin button until it reads "8 1"
This will force all bills inserted to go to the credit meter. You will never accidentally end up cashing out your bill.
[ADD 5-30-2011] It turns out that this setting has to be enabled when the dbv is set up using the SET chip. If the SET chip option is
configured as disabled, this option can't be changed and all bills will always go to the tray. If the SET chip option is configured as enabled,
then the option is set here. If enabled, a set chip is NOT required to change this setting.

Note: To set these values, turn the jackpot reset key to change the selected (flashing) digit. Press the spin button to increment the

•[7-1] 0000 Maximum number of credits that will actually cash out from your hopper.
Zero effectively disables the hopper, but you can use a low number to match the number of coins that you have, if you wish.
If you have more credits than the value set here on the meter, pressing cash out will become a hand pay that is cleared with
the key.
•[7-2] 1200 This will cause all single wins of 1201 or more to lock up as a jackpot with lights flashing. Set this between the highest win that you
want to pay out normally and the lowest win that you want to lock up as a jackpot. Jackpot wins cleared with the jp key
"disappear" and are not added to the credit meter (although they are added to the jackpot meter in the bookkeeping menus.)
•[7-3] 9999 All single wins of equal to or less than the value set in [7-2] (1200 or less in this case) will go to the credit meter as long as the final
number of credits is less than 10,000.
•[7-5] 2000 The bill validator will turn off when you have more than 2000 credits. Use any value that you want here.
•[8] 0000 optional. Partial pay on lockups. If you want some of your jackpot or lockup amounts to pay from the hopper, set this
to the number of coins you want to pay out. This number cannot be higher than the hopper limit setting [7-1].
•Press the white test button one final time after making your last setting change to be sure that the changes stick
•Close the door

I have the set chip in the machine...I pushed the white button and it reflects 9-1....I press the white button again and I set the coin amount...after that I cannot set up any other options...like 8-1??
Should I start again and follow the previous posting???r

Remove the set chip after enabling the bill validator (9-0 to 9-1). Machine should be ready to play at this point. Now, push the white reset button, and use either the button or the jackpot reset key (on the side of the machine) to advance through the menus. The PSR you have will guide you through and you will find the setting you are looking to change.

I have done that .....I reset the machine again..to 9-1...the validator does work....but when I get to the 8-n option ....the Spinn Reel button does not light and I hear a click...8-2 appears and I cannot change the setting...
I tried the above long posting information but cannot get to the 8 setting to change it to a 1 instead of a 2.....

No credits on the machine...after the reset....I now lost the coin to credit feature..now if I hit a win.. the coins go to the hopper...I feel like I am going backwards...Should I try a third time on the set chip?
Any help is appreciated...

No need for set chip if 9-1 and denom set. With no credits on machine push the white test button 2 times. Either a 2 or a 5 will be in the winner paid window, if it is the 2 follow above instruction for sound. If it is the 5 change it with the spin button. Then turn the key to get to 8 and change setting to instructions I gave. Then push white test button watching the coins played window. When you see a 7 follow instructions again each turn of the key moves the digit and spin advances it. Push test again 7-2 and follow instructions again and so on. When instructions are done push test until it goes blank, close door and your ready. What I gave you are the OPTION's for Dummies that I use as a Bible.

Stop using the SET chip -- the ONLY two things you're going to use that for are to set the denomination (so the machine knows how many credits to issue per $1 bill inserted), and to enable to bill validator. All other options are set with the normal machine chips in place, and zero credits on the credit meter.

Maybe you didn't understand. Once at the 8 option, It is the spin reels button that changes the 8-2 to 8-0 then 8-1

When I got to the 8 option, the spin reel button is NOT lighted and there was no way to change the feature 8-2 to 8-1..??..!!....the reset key forwarded me to another number....

I am doing this from memory so bear with me here. I think your problem is with the cash out switch, it is mis-wired. I do not have any S+ machines in house right now so I can't go look! But the spin, bet one are set up the same way, the cash out has a different set up on the NO and NC contact. This will cause the problem you are having.

Yes the reset key will only change to the next option. Is your spin reels button working at all? Not worried about a light. Is something else lighting up? Sometimes the switch will come loose. With the door open push the spin reels button to see if it is pushing the switch. Or easier still, push the little white button under the coin comparator to get a credit then push spin with door open. Look at switch under spin button and make sure all wires are on it (compare the max bet button).

See posts 23 and 26....I was able to get the option back so that when I win..the money adds to the credit meter...however....and someone please help me...in the previous posts listed...Do I use the Set Chip again to change the 8-0 to 8-1??.....It is a little confusing the way it has been posted....but I am making progress....Also, when I do put a dollar into the BV...4 coins are ejected from the hopper and a 4 appears in the winner paid window and a 1 appears in the credit window although the credit cannot be played and disappears once I start a new spin in the game.

You do not need a set chip to change the option 8-0 to 8-1. You only need the set chip to enable bill validator and set the denomination if you have the dbv enabled. I don't know why you can't change 8-0 to 8-1, I'm going to boot my S+ tonight to see if there's an issue with that.
When you put the dollar in, the behavior described is correct. The winner paid window shows 4 coins dispensed, and the 1 in the credit window is the bill denomination, I bet if you put a $5 bill it will say 5. Push the credit/cash button so that it is lit before you insert the bill, then insert the bill and it should stop dispensing coins and the credits should add up.

Going back reading some of your posts, You said when you get to option 8-0 you hear a click. Try pulling the handle to see if it moves and if it changes from 8-0 to 8-1. I have a machine hear that would not let me use the spin button but let me use the handle. I disconnected the handle so the button would work. Felt it was better to have button over handle.

I tried your idea....the handle worked for the other numbers but when I reached the 8-2..the handle locked, the button light went off, I heard a click, and I could not change the setting.....Does this mean I missed a step in the set-up after I used the set chip?...I can go back and start again...any other ideas are appreciated....Thanks

It is not a set problem. I guess the best thing to try at this point is to clear it again. Then use the instructions I gave you set the options again. Then use the set chip to turn 9-0 to 9-1 and set denom to .25. Option 2 for sound, 5 for bill to credit, 8 for wins to meter, 7 or hopper pay amount, then next 7 for max credit on machine, next 7 for amount of credits before b/v turns off.

To save yourself a little hassle, go ahead and clear it, then put the game chip back in and make your setting changes to see if they'll change for you. You can always go back afterwards and use your SET chip to enable the bill validator and set the denomination.
To be clear, you can activate the bill validator after everything else is set up the way you want it.

PROBLEM SOLVED....I took your advice and started over again using the SET CHIP...not the Clear Ram Chip. It took me over an hour to go over the steps and when the 8-0 appeared..I was able to change it to 8-1 and then replaced the game chip...cleared a few numbers.. and the bills now enter as credits rather than returning as coins through the hopper....
