Title: bill validator operation
Post by: alrolon800 on April 16, 2021, 08:32:36 PM
turned on my s+ machine and my dbv200 bill validator goes thru its whining, then the insert notes light comes on but when i insert a dollar bill it takes it in completely, pauses for 5-10 seconds and spits it out. quarters work flawlessly. could it be BV is turned off? I thought if turned off the light for the insert notesl would not come on? Also, is there a DBV i can replace it with?  thanks, al

Do you have credits in the machine?  Would the bill's credit take you over the credit limit?  If that is not the case, you may have to re-calibrate the validator or clean the heads in the validator.  If the validator is off or disabled, it wouldn't even take the bill.

You can replace it with another DBV200 head that is known to be working, or you could change the entire validator for a WBA12/13, which are more modern and usually less prone to issues.  The WBA12/13's latest available firmware will also take all new bills except the new $100.  Replacing the validator involves getting a new validator cage, power supply, and validator harness.  In my opinion it is worth upgrading to the WBA series.

I would like to go that route if I can. what would be the cost for a swap to the wba unit.  how hard is the programming and is the swap out easy. can i use my reg clear chip and set denom chips to program it in. and door bill  feed will fit thru the door or would i have to modify??

There is no re-programming needed on an S+. Many of the dealers who frequent and sponsor this site can set you up with what you need and provide support to do your change.  It is not all that difficult, you just have to take your time.

thanks rick  will be looking for a dealer. I got one dbv200 working last night with dollar bills and of course the quarters with the coin comparitor. swapped power supply for the dbv and it worked flawlessly for the dollar bills.  took all but one weathered bill. checked caps on the bad power supply and two of the three were bad {out of range}. ordered a few caps and will change-em out so i have a backup. the other S+ machine will get the wbv validator. Best I can figure is that power supply throws a lower voltage as the caps dwindle and simply hampers the validator from doing its job. I need at least one of the two machines i'm working on to accept 1s, 5s, 10s and 20s. Hence the interest in the wbv thanks so much. Al

Hi Rick, i'm dealing with jim on getting a wba for one of the S+ machines im working on. I'm going to keep one of them. the one that will only take quarters and dollars i will sell to my brother. you mentioned something about recalibration.  it will only take about 30 percent of the dollar bills i give it. how would i go about recalibrating the dbv-200?
