Title: What's in the Bally Owner's Pictorial Guide?
Post by: Nurbo on July 04, 2021, 09:36:47 AM
Hello everybody,

I want to know what is in the book Bally Owner's Pictorial Guide

I am NOT looking for a copy or PDF, but just knowing the content because I already have a few booklets and I wouldn't want the same.

If someone has it and can take one or two page photos at lower quality because I don't want a copy.

Thank you !

My copy is at the house and I'm on the road, It is a good book to have.  It covers the electroinc circuits, mechanical operation, also has pull out schematics on the 742a, 831, 873, 809 machines.

it is somewhat unique.  A few books just used material from the bally parts manuals and their added value is marginal.

my images are too big to post on nlg, so look here for the table of contents pages and a few random sample pages:

http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/owners_pictorial_guide_samples (http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/owners_pictorial_guide_samples)

the book should be available at cover price, so don't get gouged.  e.g. buy directly from the Gambler's General Store web site ... don't buy via their listing on amazon.  You can also see if Mead Publishing is still active- http://www.meadpublishinglasvegas.com/slot_machine_repair.htm (http://www.meadpublishinglasvegas.com/slot_machine_repair.htm)

If you want to buy a used one that is pretty much like new, I have one which I was planning on putting on ebay at some point, anyone is free to pm me an offer.  I'll include a pdf version as well since that's really handy for searching.

someone is selling a basically new one on ebay now for $40 with free shipping.   Definitely avoid the photocopy listing for $20.

Nurbo:

I agree with Wolf when he says that it is a book worth having.  When I got into this hobby/addiction, I was a babe in the woods.  At the time, ALL of the books were available and cheap.  I bought as many of them as I could get.  Do not get ripped off on the price of the book.

I have found that many of the books available ABSOLUTELY have overlapping content.  I have also found that there is some benefit of having multiple explanations and sometimes pictures of how to solved a similar problem.  One explanation may compliment the other and make the whole think click into the realm of understanding for you.  Back when I was buying EM's like crazy and the addiction was at it's peak many machines came with a manual of some kind.  When I sold them or traded up I just passed the books on to the grateful new owners.  That was my experience.  Your mileage may vary.  Best of luck either way

Hello,

Thank you all for your responses.
Indeed, I had already noticed that many books on electro-mechanical Ballys had similar content.
This book still seems much more complete than all the others.

I own a copy.  It's the best book I've seen on any topic with regards to how to repair it.

The book doesn't just tell you what to do; it shows you photos every step of the way.

I regard it as an essential purchase.
