Title: Stardust machine question
Post by: Trisail on September 03, 2021, 12:05:49 PM
Poster says it's a Stardust machine. Anyone know what manufacturer made it? Made by stardust??
Poster said it threw a code.
Thinking about buying it for someone and fixing.

Tony

Yes it's a CDS.

Found this old thread on our archive site for CDS USO 320:

Ok. Next questions.  The CDS info on site is just video? Old site, just video too? Is it something I can repair fairly easily or would I need special stuff? Should I stay away from CDS as parts may be hard to find?

Looks interesting,  asked for the code it threw, and says change light is blinking.

Thanks for the help.

Both our current site and that link show the reel version, from what I see.
I didn't realize we had the same info in our NLG File system as the offsite link I posted.
Parts are hard to find, but some members (like Alan/Badbaud) might possibly have some.

Ok thanks.  Waiting until Tuesday to see what the code is. Know more then.

Code on machine is
System Error

Any info on what it would take to clear that and get it run?

From another post I checked, looks like it just needs reset key turned and setup. I would assume a battery change would be needed 1st? Anyone know for sure?

Ok I found my own post from 6 years ago. I knew I had worked on one, once.

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=6612.0 (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=6612.0)

Battery arrived. Turned key inward and got a menu. I eventually got to the "initialize" mode and after a series of commands to press key 1,2 etc, I got a working machine for my client.
What a fun machine for an older game! It's got a great sound scheme. The colors and graphics are bright and, best of all, it's got a COOL bonus video (like a skill stop) slot that plays when you draw three of a kind or better.
Why did these machines have such a bad rap anyway?

I think Buzz had a truckload of them pulled up to Joey's store once and one of them said those CDS's were a bunch of crap! haha

Gotta ask Joey about 'em.

From Buzz: (regarding another CDS)

Todd I have a working Easy Street and the reason it's a working machine is I'm afraid to ever turn it on.  Hey I've got nothing good to say about a CDS,  But the fellow you do need to talk to is paulw on this site. Paul doesn't post very much but I see he still logs on every now and then, I would send him a PM. Paul is a nice guy and he use to work on a lot of these types of machines. Another fellow that may be of some help would be raz410. ( Bob)

I have the manual for your machine on disc, but it's 2,223 KB I don't know if it's possible to send that large of a file. Oh and if I do a little digging I think I have the files for Birth chips for Easy Street. ( I think I'm gonna need your address.

That key your turning on the side of the machine, it turns in both directions. Sorry I've forgot just about everything I ever knew about these CDS machines. But I think if you turn the key CCW the machine will go into a lot of the setup.

I read more posts (including from Roz - remember her? lol) that they were great machine, but that parts availability is so scarce that they're just not worth it.
But for Trisail... I'd stick with this machine a little while. It sounds like it might be very close to working.

Thanks for the info.  I will get with the guy and see how low I can get it down to.  I'm thinking I should try to get it going. Looks nice and that bonus game is a plus. I really have a lot on my plate I need get finished for members, behind on shipping a lot of stuff and power supplies and....

I don't know anything about the birthing chips or if they can be programmed. Information on that would be good.

If I get it going, my friend would want it.  If I don't, I suppose parting it out and more shipping would be in my future.  :fryingpan:

I probably won't have time to become an expert on them so probably couldn't help others with them. But you never know, I hate to give up on stuff.

I'll let you know what happens in the next couple of days.

It is definitely a CDS as it says in the lower right hand corner...I am not familiar with that game...Attached is a list of games that I know CDS produced and their birth chips required for each game...
