Title: Where would I buy a BR-chemistry battery for an IGT S2000 in the Tucson area?
Post by: bootmii on February 02, 2022, 02:35:08 PM
I'd prefer to go somewhere in Vail or Benson specifically, but anywhere in Pima or Cochise county is fine.

Because this is a classic X/Y problem: my IGT S+ showed RAM Error on the blue dot-matrix when it first booted up. The guy on the phone told me I needed to replace the coin cell and it was a BR2330. I pried the contacts off of the coin cell. The other battery had already been replaced with a blue GE rechargeable Ni-Cd when it came into our possession.

As for why it has to be BR: CR is superior in every way except operating temperature range. I suspect it gets hot enough in there that a CR cell will fail.

You could check out vendors listed on the front page, or simply go to Amazon or eBay and have that battery in a day or so.

I get  BR2330 coin cells at Wal-Mart's or Sam's Club.

Any 3 volt coin cell will do.

There's one on 9260 South Houghton Rd.

You have a S2000, not a S+.

Personally I'd replace the battery with a battery holder and standard coin cell.  That way there's no soldering involved the next time it needs to be replaced.  I use a CR2354 holder and battery on mine, they last for years and years.

The rechargeable battery should be removed.  It's not required for home use and those things have destroyed lots and lots of S2000 MPUs when they decide to leak.  If you have a 50X series MPU board you can just remove it and throw it away.  If it's a 1270 there's another component that needs to be removed along with the battery.

Here is a photo of the extra component to remove along with the green battery if the board is a 1270
Circled in yellow U16. It can be clipped out.
