Have an S+ machine. When I cash out with more than the hopper limit and it goes to hand pay mode it does not make the typical ding ding noise before turning the key that all the other S+ machines Ive ever had do. Its cashes out but no noise before turning the key or after. Its silent. All game play sounds work. SP1271 Chip as usual. What am I missing?

I think you still have to enable the bell thru the options on page zero [6] even if you're just using the speaker bell for a handpay lockup?
There no reference in the PSR to your question really....there is mention of a "Lower Jackpot" that you may have to set.
It's a great question...I've never thought about it really.
Pull yoursef out a copy of the PSR 1271 from the NLG File System...you may see something I missed...>>>
Group 2 -- Page Zero Options
To change the option setting, press the Spin Reels button.
To move to the next page zero option, turn the jackpot reset key.
To move to Group 3 at any time within the zero pages, press the self test button.
Reel-Spin Sound <0> [2] Options are reel-spin tones and reel-stop sounds {0} or reel-spin tones only {1}.
Credit Mode <0> [5] Options are standard credit or noncredit {0}, player-initiated credit {1} and player-initiated noncredit {2}.
The player-initiated credit option defaults to the noncredit mode when the credit meter remains at zero for more than 30 seconds, or when any accumulated credits are cashed out.
The player-initiated noncredit option defaults to the credit mode if the game is idle for 30 seconds, and it remains in the credit mode when credits are cashed out credits are accumulated.
Mechanical Bell <0> [6] Options are ring on hand pays only {0} or ring on all pays {1}.

do the sound test, it will check every note, the jackpot sound, etc. press the test button until you see a 50 in the display, the turn the jackpot key each note will be played ,as you advance through the menu you should hear each note and all the sounds.
see the flip cards for a description of the numbers and what display they are in.
this will tell you if the board is producing the correct sounds.
Hope this helps

Thanks guys. Great ideas. I'll look in to it this weekend and report back. Too many things keeping me busy till then.

Okay so I got some time to check into this more. I did the sound test as per your recommendation Jim. All sounds work. Sound test 56 is the sound I am looking for at hand pay. Can't seem to find a setting to turn it on. I tried setting mechanical bell to to enabled. No luck either. I see on the flip cards is self test 12 0-1 sound effects enable/disable. I cant seem to get to a 12 when cycling through. Im about to give up lol. I may have the machine sold this weekend. It might go as is.

Did you happen to go into self-test and verify that it is SP1271?
If perhaps it got burnt over to 1048 this would make sense, because 1048 did not utilize the jackpot-handpay tones.
-
Also, I'm sure you know this, but there can't be any credits on the machine if you're trying to change settings.

Yes, but thank you because sometimes it is very easy to forget that. This is the 1st S+ I've seen do this. I have no idea what to try at this point. I suppose I could try a board or different chips or a mother board. Maybe Ill just let it go as is.

okay good.
Hey! On my machine, I open the door and press the lil' white test button 10 times.
That so you can see what chips the MPU sees.
Verify for us if it is indeed an SP1271 in there please?...Labels CAN be wrong.

I have verified its 1271. Tonight I put in another 1271 with same result. Strange. Looks like i got a possible buyer on Friday. Im just gonna let it go as is. If the sale falls through I will look into this more.

OK so the machine is sold but he hasn't picked it up. So I had some time to burn tonight and this issue kept bugging me.
Tried different MPU no luck. I did not try switching from a SP1271 to SP731 as that did not seem to be right as all the other SP1271 chipped machines Ive had makes the sound. The fix was a RAM clear. All is good now. Makes the hand pay sound as it should.
