Title: WMS BB1 error
Post by: am4bama on July 23, 2023, 01:48:50 PM
Changed to new CPU and while clearing error came up and stalled, "Validation of SPI device failed".  What does this mean.

Probably missing or bad SJUR chip.

Thanks for replying.  I think I got a short or loose wire.  Sometimes will start up but mostly will not.  The lights showing power, on both the main power and the 24 v power, both the 3v and 5v lights are out.  Just sometimes, they all come on and I get into setting up machine.
Any suggestions, is there a certain wire that is the 3v and 5v. I have replaced both power sources, backplane and most recently the cpu.

3v and 5v comes form the atx style power supply.  You can put a meter on the red and black wires out of the power supply to check that you have 5 volts coming out of it.  It is odd that you have issues with the 5v and 3v lines when you have already replaced most components.  My suggestion is that you unplug all plugs from the backplane other than the ones that come from the power supplies to see if you can consistently get all the power leds to light up.  Then you plug in one plug at a time until you see which one causes the issue. (always do the plugging and unplugging with power off).

Thanks.  Will do that.  I think I already did test power out and had the 5V, but will test again.  Will let you know.

Found in the power box the small ceramic piece, about 1 inch (don't know what it is called) mounted to side by where the wires come out.  It is torched.  Can these be purchased?  Had about 2 v coming out.  Wire came loose and now no power out.

Can this be bypassed or modified?

That kind of damage could be a symptom of a more serious issue with the power supply.  Is this the one you already replaced?  You really shouldn't just bypass things like that, it could make matters worse.  The bb1 ATX power supplies are cheap and easy to find.  I would just get a known working one.

Rick, thanks.  This one is the replacement.  I should have sent it back.  Advertised as tested.  I thought I mind need to get another one.
Waiting on expert advise, now got it.  Will let you know.

Rick,  Got it working.  The new power supply looked like new.  When I play with it awhile will have a question to you about a game for the machine.  Thanks again for your great help.  I know you have helped a lot of people before and it is nice having your patience.
