I don't know the history on it but everything works except the dbv 200 validator. Some of my terminology may be wrong so keep that in mind when reading my post. At first it was dead, no red LED. I determined the DBV power supply was bad and replaced it. Now the DBV 200 has the lit red led by the black connector, if I flip up the "lid" on the head those LEDs inside are lit. When machine is turned on the DBV makes a single short spinning gear sound in the head which lasts about a second and that is it. The acceptor light never comes on. It won't attempt to take a bill. The cash can is missing the plate on the bottom that you normally open to access the stacked bills. I can remove and install the cash can without moving the lever at all. I can manually lift and lower the platform inside the can a few inches with a bit of resistance, and the spring loaded platform seems fine. I'm suspecting the cash can is possibly not working or seating correctly. If push up on it from underneath it does not cause any of the gears/motors to actuate as you would on a properly working unit. I have noticed that when I pull the cash can out or push it in, the gears visible on the left side of the DBV/transport move a tiny bit. I've gone through and recorded all the numbers which display with each push of the test button and can post any information needed to help me. I don't know the logical steps to follow to determine what the problem/s are nor how to narrow it down by process of elimination. But I'm hopeful that the knowledge from all the slot machine brains and experience on here can do so. I await your assistance.... I have posted pics of the DBV 200, cash can and cash can housing, happy to post anything you need.

I would start with the cash can as the optics have see through the cash can properly

Am I right that a replacement can will be specific to the DBV 200? Anyone on here sell them or know where I can buy them? I've already hunted around the web a bit with no luck.

Yes correct. The cash can is specific to DBV type. NlLG member Jim Midwest Slots may have them.

Do you have a SET chip ?
If the light for the bill validator is not coming on its likely that the DBV is not enabled.
Basically the S+ is coin in .... (not dollar, quarter, dime, nickle or penny) Its coin in.
1 coin = 1 credit - the coin simply has to match the sample coin in the coin-comparitor and you got the credit.
So the rhetorical question is.... if you put a $1 bill into the validator how many credits does it give ???
The S+ by itself does not know denomination.
This is where the SET chip comes in. You pull out your game chip, insert the set chip, run the setup that will tell the validator that its enabled and its a quarter (or whatever) machine.
This way the DBV knows how many credits to give for a dollar. ... some people run quarters or dollars as coin but SET the validator as a penny so they can quickly put on 100 or so credits.
On our main page... bottom right there is RICKS FAQs - it has all the details about how to use a SET chip.

I do have a SET chip and have done the procedure in the past so I'm familiar with it. I have not done it on this machine because I thought the symptoms as described in my post did not point to the validator not being enabled. Isn't there a way for me to verify that it is enabled using the white test button and if so how do I do that?

9_0 is disabled, 9_1 is enabled. How to get there depends on SP installed.

On this machine 4th of July, when I've pushed the test button for the 12th time it flashes from 4162 in winner paid and 0731 in credits to 5 in winner paid and the same 0731 in the credits and 4 always in the coins played. I'm not sure which numbers are for SP and which are for SS? Does anyone know? And if so can you then tell me the procedure to determine if the BV is enabled?

Your SP is 731
