Title: BB2 Unable to Boot to Game nvram.o: init_module: Input/output error
Post by: stroke6463 on December 22, 2024, 10:52:39 AM
Hi everyone, need some help with a WMS BB2 machine.  I am a computer tech but new to slot machines so reaching out to the experts.  My brother has a machine that has been working for the past couple of years.  Recently, there was an error about the battery being low/bad (can't remember the exact message) so I replaced both 2032 batteries (brand new duracells and double checked the voltage with a meter and orientation).  Now, I get the error below about nvram.o input/output error and it boots to a bash prompt.  I swapped out the RAM and got the same issue.  I am familiar enough with Linux to try to run some commands but the USB ports seem to be deactivated even while the BIOS is booting (can't even press F2).  I even tried some old USB keyboards with no luck.  Any suggestions?

Hello Stroke6463

If The batteries was replaced, do you need Perform a ram clear, probably The nvram is corrupt. This process is not possible wiht The keyboard, do You need the properly memory to do this if you Don't have this memory some member of this forum could sell to You.

Best Regards.

No, I did not.  RAM to me is volatile so I believed it was cleared on a restart but I tried replacing the RAM anyway.  I see some of these cards on eBay but I would be will to buy it from someone here for a reasonable price.  If someone can make me an offer, we can talk.  I just hope it works.

nvram is non volatile ram.  It is backed up by the batteries when power is off.  So when you replace the batteries, the nvram is corrupt (this is the area where the slot stores game configuration).  You will need to perform a clear procedure with a clear CF card 1810 or newer based on the OS the current game is using.

Somewhat related but interesting reading nevertheless... :rotfl:

Hey guys, thanks for the great info and I learned a lot.  Sorry for the delay but the first 1810 card I bought off of eBay was corrupt (just my luck) so I had to buy a second card.  The second card was able to successfully clear the nvram and get the game to load again.  Also, the video below was also very helpful to reset everything after it was cleared.  I appreciate the advice and I wish I can buy you guys a coffee or beer.
