Title: Upgrading SSD in AVP 4.0 box
Post by: Stoodo on February 04, 2025, 11:19:45 AM
I tried to upgrade the SSD in my Crystal 23 brain box.  On bootup it complains that the ssd I used doesn't have the 'power hit tolerance" feature and that I should use an SSD off the IGT recommended list.

Does anyone know of a series of SSDs that will work?

Thanks!

Intel DC S3500 series will work. Virtually any that have power hit protection. Usually they are enterprise drives not the usual consumer drive for PC.

Thank you! Do you know if there are any other limits such as size? (e.g. you can't go too big)

I tried a 400GB Intel DC S3700 and that's what first got me the message.  Nothing else I had worked either.

I have used up to a 800gb which is overkill but the safe storage (NVRAM) is stored on a partition of the SSD. The larger the drive, the more storage you will have. Actually a 240-480gb is very sufficient for most practical purposes. I have some 800gb drives. PM me if you are interested in one.

I run 1TB Seagate Ironwolf SSDs in all 3 of my 660 boxes and they work great!

Thanks,
Jason

Seagate IronWolf is a HDD not a SSD. I seriously doubt it has a power hit tolerance.

This is what I have.

I stand corrected. I think they are now discontinued.

I've been able to use any SSD I've tried in my 660 3.0 boxes as I do not think they have the same check.  The 4.0 box is seems more selective.  I have ordered a drive from Ron so I should be good.

RB seems to always have what I need for so many less common things!   :)

Glad to have him on NLG!
