Title: s5500
Post by: meatman1010 on January 06, 2015, 05:38:59 PM
hi , I just bought a 1994 bally s5500. its only set up for quarters. the only thing that will turn on is the 3 florescent bulbs. the 4 breakers below the power toggle are pushed in [not tripped] the cpu board looks good ,barely dusty at all. No sign of any moisture damage. the battery on board (3.6) is dead. the transformer gets warm after time like my s6000 does. the two resepticals in the machine have power. the transformer and the distribution box are the exact same as my s6000. all plugs are connected, not loose. no red light on board or display lights, credits, wins, coin in, or buttons you push light up. it seems to be a wiring issue I think. like I say, everything is connected. When I push the hopper in, it starts turning backwards till I turn the power off which is a little weird.  can someone please guild me to help fix this?? thank you.....Wray

Well if the battery is dead you should see a 81 code on the display.
If their is no display try replacing the battery and and do a ram clear.
If it is a older model you can do a ram clear without the u 12 and u 15

Not familiar with the 5500 but with the 6000’s even with the battery being dead if you push the rest button the red light on the mpu board will light and the light on the coin optic board will still be lit.....I can actually even pull the board completely out and I will get action in the win & credit display.....I think it may be more than just a battery issue.

I would look at the power supply,
check for proper voltages.

I second that on the power supply. You could swap the power supply from your S6000 to be sure. Dead battery will definitely need replacement. And then a clear procedure. Then all should be good to go. The power supply can be repaired. There is replacement parts available for them. Vendors on here or their Ebay stores have the parts. Easy fix.
