hi gang,
i replaced a dead battery, installed a clear chip, put the dip switches 7&8 on dip switch bank one to on......
after the safe ram was cleared i got this message:(see image 1).....then i went ahead and put the game chip in, reset the dip switches, then i get image 2....i have tried to follow to the letter the instructions here but no luck.....any suggestions??

Check to see if on dip switch bank 2 all are in the off position. That is how they were on the one I had worked on just yesterday. Also after clear dip switch 1 should all be off also.
-
yup they are all off....i am wondering if there needs to be a proper config of the dip switches...actually i have a working game maker up front i'll take a quick look/...

the screen i get after doing the reset is simply turn the switches (7&8) back off and remove the clear chip.......if i understand the process, I should have instead gotten an options screen......so when i did that and off/on the game i get the second screen shown above....if i close the key switch i get a statement in red underneath this screen saying illegal jurisdiction 0......before i go messing with the jurisdiction chip can someone verify that this is the screen i will see for a locked jurisdiction chip? fortunately i do have a programmer and an eraser........i am thinking maybe i will burn me a set of mains from my other game and try that first......any thoughts?
-
Try new(to machine) mains. Can't hurt and I think that is mentioned in the above links.
-
ok i will try that....do you know offhand what the chips are? i could copy a set from another machine and try that.....i don't have a manual for this and would rather not rip the tape off of them if i don't have to....
-
Newer mains(20-24) use 27C4001 or equiv. I use that one. Don't know about the older mains but prob. the same, but why use.

sweet! i have a ton of them laying around!

I am happy to say the problem is solved.
I replaced the 2 "main" chips and moved a jumper and the game came up properly and is now 100%
Thanks Richard and all you other folks. Another old slot is back to life!
