Top pic is your X-units, that work during payouts when you play 2 or 3 coins. They don't work with only 1 coin played. Only one of them will work at a time.
Bottom pic is your payout counter assembly. It steps up for every coin out counted, or, when using the X-units, it steps once for every 2 coins out, or once for every 3 coins paid out if you are playing multiple coins. Pull it out and check it out.
