Title: Bill acceptor problem
Post by: Don Indallas on December 31, 2015, 08:12:52 PM
I have an MK6 with a bill acceptor problem that is bugging me to death.  When the machine is powered up, the bottom lights on the bill acceptor is on.  When one game is played, the second green runway light also comes on.  Play again, and the third light joins. Play Again and the last green runway light comes on. Play one more time, and the red "busy" light joins the party.  It remains this way until the next time it is powered up.  It takes the bills just fine, but the lights are wrong.

I found this from an earlier post, but I don't understand if it applies, or what the abbreviations mean.  Help??

"Everything was alright. ICB was enabled on the cash box. Went in and removed the ICB module from JCM UBA Cashbox.

Thanks BettorSlots and HARP."

Here is the manual with the error codes.
It doesn't look at the runway lights but
uses the the Red,Yellow and Green on the head.

I talked with a trch rep from MEI.  The validator is working as it should, but the bezel is broken.  It needs to be replaced.   MEI wont sell one to me because it is for a gaming machine, and I am not a compamy.

What the Mei rep told you is crap.  We have a few that do that often, and simply reflashing the mei with the correct bezel type in the options corrects the problem.  I've got one on the floor right now doing that exact same thing you described, I just haven't gotten around to reflashing it again.

This device is setting in an Aristocrat machine at my house.  I understand what you are saying, but i don't have a way of reflashing the bezel.  The tech guy told me that I need one of those hand held devices to communicate with the cashflow device, and it cannot be done with a computer.  Any ideas on where I can go from here?

Mod note: Corrected tiny print.

LOL for some reason that reply showed up in blue and TIIIIIINY letters! Had top copy and past it to a word file and resize the font.

Anyway, it's not the bezel, it's the MEI bill acceptor itself.  It has a setting for standard or (I forget what the other option is).  Is it set for US currency?  You could ship it to one of the vendors and they can reflash it, or I can probably receive it and reflash it here.  Yes, there is a yellow handheld download tool, and there is a way to flash it with the computer, but MEI keeps that under tight control compared to JCM's software suite.  As in, they'll send you software but it requires a username and password, and even then it'll only unlock certain parts of the software.  To calibrate it requires passing a class from MEI and another password to unlock that portion.

My Bad on the tiny print.  Thanks for taking the time to re-size it to read it.  It is set for US currency, and as a bill validator, it works great.  It takes all denominations, even upside down.  The only issue with it is the lights on the bezel.  i don't know if it is worth shipping it out to get this fixed, but it is really annoying.  MEI said that they would not do anything with it because I am not a company, or in a company that is registered with them to handle gaming equipment.  I took a quick look on-line, but didn't locate any repair places that were driving distance from the Dallas area.  I really appreciate the information you have given, and your kind offer to look into flashing it yourself.  Will it cause any harm to just unplug the bezel and leave it alone?

Unplugging it would not cause any issues. The bezel is mainly cosmetic. Handy for us to see at a glance if a bv is having problems, but that's about it.

Thanks for the information.  About 50 miles from here is the Worlds Largest Casino (Windstar) in Oklahoma.  Maybe I can get a tech there to flash it for me.  The worst they can do is toss me out, which is a good way for me to save money....    Thanks again!
