Title: NXT2 MPU/HDD versions
Post by: Yoeddy1 on January 20, 2016, 01:18:39 AM
Guys, can somebody share the differences between the 2008 version and other versions of the NXT2 MPU?

I've heard SSD drives, RAM, and operating temperature variances.  Anything else?

Would it show the version in the config menus, or do you have to look at the board?

Thanks,
Jason

I only know of just the NXT2 platform.  You can upgrade the RAM and the 5400 rpm hard drive to an SSD without any further changes.  After that all I've ever seen is the NXT 3.2, and the latest version 3.2 with a different enclosure that goes in the blade s32s.  I like those the best, no wires to mess with.

Don't worry about your NXT2 so much. As long as you have a hard drive and 2gb of memory, you're good to go. I would recommend picking up a SSD drive. You can get a 40GB or 60GB for fairly cheap on ebay. Try to find one that is brand new. You can go larger, but takes longer for  it to format every time you change games. You'll see a difference when playing Lord of the Rings. "Now Loading" between bonuses is much faster.

I've only seen the 2006 green board variant and the 2008 blue board variant.  I only have the 2008 type, so I don't know what the differences are, but the CPU and the GFX card modules are interchangeable.

I had posted a message a bit earlier about drive specs that I thought I had.  Seems I was reading the wrong spec.  Anyway, instead of an old 30 gig drive, I put in an 80gig drive that I had.  The format will probably take longer now, but at least the drive is newer.

Sounds like the thing to get is an SSD.

Yeah, for 30 bucks new, how could I not go SSD?  Seems to run great!  120GB size.

Thanks,
Jason
