Waiting for the Video Display
« on: April 27, 2014, 07:03:34 AM »
I recently bought 2 Reel Touch Tabasco's, Parts Complete. One is up and running and works fine after a lot of help from Ken and Chris from Ohio Gaming.
I am getting Waiting for Video Display message on the VFD and the top box computer does not boot all the way up.
This machine works fine with the other computer/monitor.
I guess I need a Computer/Monitor assy. Any one else experience this ? Thanks for your advice.

I had this same problem a few times with reel touch machines. Check the ribbon cable that plugs in the power distribution box and also goes to backplane make sure it is in good  and also check the little thin plugs that go into the same power distribution box in the center. All those must be in to get the game to communicate with the upper box. Good luck Scott

Thanks Scott,I tried those connections and they are good.Bad machine works fine with Computer/Monitor
from good machine.I am wondering if it's the hard drive or a chip or something minor or will I have to replace
the whole assy. and get the Tabasco game installed ?
Thanks, Dave

Did you try the bad monitor in the game that was working?
If you need a hard drive check with "ratspot"  here on NLG he has them for about $50 bucks all loaded up. Although by looking at your first picture I'm not sure it would have got that far with a bad HD.

I have tried the bad monitor in the working machine and the display stays the same.
I have also tried it out of a machine just hooked up to a power supply and it is the same.
The only thing I have noticed different about the 2 monitors is the bad one has bulged capacitors.
I really don't want to switch hard drives for fear of screwing up the good one.
Thanks,

I would restore the RFA files. I don't know what the latest files are. The last on I did was RFA25. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry but I do not know how to do that :Scratch-Head: .This bad computer/monitor does not respond to the keyboard either.
Thanks.

You have to insert the RFA ATA card in the side slot and remove the game ATA card from the top slot and turn on the machine. The RFA files with update after if seems like a few hours but is really about 5-10 minutes.

This is a reel tough machine, not a vis1on.  The problem is most likely some bad caps on the board inside your LCD.  Look for some bulging caps

I was just looking at the 2 pics you posted in your 1st post. There is nothing wrong with the top box P/C. you have a conflict between one or more of the items I referred to in your other thread. SORRY WAS NOT YOUR THREAD. What are the SB & SG chips? What is the Ver. (VS) chip? What BIOS ver is it. BIOS 1 is the FINGER on 1st boot. BIOS 2 is the ENERGY STAR logo in upper right corner. You can also try plugging in a Keyboard and going into the top box and go into the bios and setting to default (if you have changed the Battery this is a good idea).

Just a thought. I hope you're not being impatient. That boot screen may take up 5 mins. to go to the next screen, which is even better.....cause it's black and it stays for about 2 min. total boot time can be 9 - 10 mins.

DF,

Here's the quote from my other thread that I had thought was for you'

"Reel touch machine are very persnickety. Everything must match for them to work SB & SG must be a good match and they must match your hard drive files and the M/B BIOS. If any one of them is not a good match for any of the others you'll not get a full boot up. So keep all stuff that was together when you got them together."

Sorry for the confusion.
If it ain't broke.....Stop trying to fix it.

Both boards and chips are identical.I have had the board from the good machine to the bad machine.I have had the top box monitor in both machines.I have tried 3 top box power supplies.I still get the same results. All 6 batteries are new.The bad monitor will not go past the screen pictured.
I have had the bad monitor with that screen on for at least 3 hours without change .On the good monitor you get an option displayed to stop the memory check, continue or go into set up.The bad monitor does not get to that point. When I plug the keyboard into the bad monitor it will light up for a second and then I cannot get the CapsLk or NumLock to light up.
Thanks,Dave

I still say it's the caps but just to be sure you can try swapping out the HD with the good one to see if it is HD related.

Dave,

It sounds like your good and bad monitors have different boot screen (1st screen you see). IF that is the case, that means you don't have matching hard drives and bios files. The older bios has the "finger" as the boot screen and the newer has the "energy star" logo in the upper right of the screen.

The boot screens are definitely different.Who knows? the monitors could have been swapped out before it left the Casino.
The good monitor has a white label with LOBSTER printed on it so you know that's not original.I feel fortunate that I got one
of these machines running considering how picky they are. Thanks for all of your help.
Dave.

Dave,

If one of the ones that is NOT working right has the boot screen with the "Energy Star" logo in the right corner, I can most likely help you get it working. I have several SB & SG chips and the drives that will work with that newer Bios.
