S+ 3100 error *SOLVED *
« on: March 01, 2017, 05:58:31 PM »

After months of intermittent "3100" errors, I read all of the posts here, and of course, nothing mentioned seemed to fix my problem.   :hissyfit:

After several months, I finally tracked it down to a faulty contact on the 6-pin Molex connector on the board behind the hopper.

An old PC power supply provided the solution:   Older PC ATX power supplies included connectors identified as P8, and P9, which are almost an exact replacement for the 6-pin Molex.

A quick replacement with this connector eliminated the dreaded "3100" error, and it has not returned. :propeller:

Very surprised that took care of 3100. That is the main power supply cable. What usually goes wrong with it is a bad contact causes burnt spots on the green grounds and thus no displays or power to reels. 3100 usually means an extra coin was paid or at least the machine thought so. Normally just opening and closing the door resets the error. Also if you put the hopper in while the machine is ON, it will give this error too. Always turn off power before adding or removing any parts.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

Could a bad contact on the power supply connector have been one that has a voltage used by the hopper? That cable has 3 voltages on it, maybe one of them goes thru the motherboard and over to the hopper connector? The voltages on that power supply connector are 7vac, 8vac and 24vac. The other wires are the grounds.

I mentioned that it took several months to find this, as the symptoms led to a hopper error, so I exchanged the hopper with another machine, and after a day or so, 3100 came back.    Sometimes the candle would not stop flashing after door open/close, which led me to focus on the door optics.   Ran the test, and showed they were faulty, So I ordered new optics, and after a while, 3100 came back.  Sprayed contact cleaner on all of the connections.  After a while 3100 came back.   Started spraying connectors 1 by 1 until 3100 was gone, which led me to the power connector.  It has been quite a while now since the fix, and 3100 has not returned.

What was frustrating, is that the problem would go away whenever I started to chase it.  I think rokgpsman might be on track, that perhaps a flaky ground or voltage may have been the source, and pulling the hopper in/out, and repeated open/close of the door may have jiggled it.
