IGT S+ gets errors 41, 42, and 43
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:59:01 PM »
My machine randomly shows 41 42 43 codes after each reset, without moving any wires around. This is my first machine, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What do you mean by reset ??

A Reel Tilt 41 means that something is obstructing the first reel from spinning, 42 is the second reel and so on.
With the power off do the reels spin freely ? and with the power on are they stiff and move one notch at a time ?
It is curious that all three reels are doing it. Perhaps someone recently rebuilt the machine and added in the reel assemblies ?
Turning a machine on without the reel assembly in place will cause that reel to go into tilt.

If you have any obstruction or rubbing then you need to fix that.
If after the power is on a reel is not stiff then that's a problem too and something is not connected.

To Clear a reel tilt (assuming that both tests above were good) you should just be able to OPEN and CLOSE the door. Upon closing the door the reels should spin one time and come to reset.
Alternatively Close the door and turn the Jackpot Reset Key 1 time (right hand side of the machine). Then open and close the door again.
You can also press the white self-test button multiple times until you go through all of the options and it comes back to the beginning and then close the door.

if the errors are still showing up - pull the MPU board and look at the corner of the board. There is a set of 5 resistors ? are they all burned up ? If so you might need to replace them.
The first 3 are for reels 1,2,3 and the other two are used for a 5 reel machine (of which were mostly overseas). You can harvest the 2 good resistors to replace any fried ones.

Finally if all that looks good and your resistors are fine then you should buy a Clear and Set Chip. A clear chip allows you to reset the machine back to factory defaults and a Set chip is necessary to enable the bill validator.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Reset (key on side of machine )

No obstructions, wheels spin freely when machine is off.
After closing the door, the reels will spin randomly for 1-2 seconds, then they all stop (sometimes one slightly befor the other two). Then reels will spin again. This happens between 5 and 7 times before the tilt code shows up.

Agreed the first thing to try is to clear the game with a clear chip.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I've cleared the machine twice. The clearing process went exactly as the directions said it would. Now every time i open and close the door the reels spin for a few seconds and stop. After they do that I get the 41 42 43 code. The codes appear randomly, but 43 and 41 show up quite a bit more than 42.

Then it could be a problem with your board. It could be the TIP125 power transistor that provides power to the reel drivers, or the filter cap or diode related to that circuit. Or the electronics that reads the reel positions.
OR, your reel connector on the backplane board could be dirty, try re-seating it a couple of times. Large connector on lower left of right angle corner of board.

Attached is the layout for the backplane board.

Make sure the wires by the fluorescent light above the reels are cable tied to the fixture so the wires don't rub on the reels. make sure the white plastic digital display for credits is tightened down . the 3 nuts are underneath. if they are loose or more then one is missing the display assembly will rub on the reels and cause errors. you can't see it or hear it rubbing  sometimes.

The Reset key on the side of the machine serves two purposes.

1. When you have a large jackpot (in excess of your hopper setting) the machine goes into hand pay - The key resets this state, and you are to hand a large cheque over to the player, along with his W2G if it exceeds 1199 dollars.
2. With the door closed - this puts the machine into statistics mode.

I would agree that if you have cleared your machine and have no obstruction or rubbing issues  then you have a problem with your MPU.
It doesn't take much to cause the machine to reel tilt - so please heed Sunrise-Sides post.

If this occurred with just one reel then you could move the reel assembly to another spot to see if the problem moved with the assembly - if so replace the reel assembly or reel optics but as this is impacting all three I really don't think its a physical issue. You can pick up spare MPU boards on Ebay rather affordably - so I would consider doing this even if it turns out to be something repairable..
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Got the new MPU and everything is working except for the Bill acceptor. Does the new set chip stay in the mpu or do i use it like the ram clear chip?

Whenever you switch MPU's or use the clear chip, you have to re-enable the validator with the set chip.

These pages are a good read for beginners.  One of the links on the top of the page has the validator setup instructions as well.

A DBV-200 will accept newer bills, and will be pretty easy to install in your existing machine, however support ended for it years ago -- it will not be able to accept the newest $100 bills, or the latest $5s with the purple number on the back.  It's a limitation with these older machines that you're not going to be able to accept the latest bills unless you go for a more modern bill validator and use an interface to get them to communicate to the machine.  More trouble than it's worth for home use, in my opinion.
