Modifying a S+ WBA 10/11 wiring harness
« on: April 02, 2016, 07:30:50 AM »
Anyone ever try modifying and older WBA10/11 wiring harness to the new WBA12/13 plug ? Is this possible ? I know its probably easier just to change the whole harness but I have lots of spare parts kicking around.

I would think the easiest way would be to splice the wires.  I have never done the modification though.  I have modified an MEI from an 6602 to a 6607 compatible harness.  It was a pain in the butt, since I actually went to the extent of removing he pins from the edge connector and re positioning them into the right place.  It worked like a charm, and the most difficult part was to figure out how to pull the pins without damaging them.

I was thinking the same of splicing the wires, I hoped someone had done this before to save me some head scratching.

The part you have to replace is the harness connector inside the b/v cage. Hook up the wires and go. One is a male type connector and the other is a female type. I've changed them out, but I changed the whole harness.

I'm sure you know that with the WBA 12/13 you will have to have a 4MB chip or flash with IDO 23 software. You need the IDO 23 to work with the S+ but you need the IDO 24 chip (4MB) to run the 12/13 b/v.

Exactly all I need to change is the harness connector but I  have to figure out the wiring. The old female connector has 11 wires (looks like 3 are not being used) and the new male has 7

Correct, there is a plug that is not used. I assume it was for a casino monitor. If you change the entire harness. That connector stays empty. So you've got it.

Anyway to edit the ID on the most recent software with a hex editor to get it to work on an S+ ?

An IDO is more than just a string at the beginning of a file, it is a communications protocol, you would have alter a lot more than just a byte or two.  Slot software has a lot of security involved in it, you cannot just change a few bytes, you also have to be compliant with all the security checks so the slot system will accept the new firmware as legitimate.

That being said....I'm assuming it's near impossible ?  :Scratch-Head:

Nothing is impossible with the proper knowledge, but  it is certainly impossible to do it with a hex editor without knowing the com and security protocol.

Well if it's not impossible lets do it !!  :Tongue_Out:  All kidding aside I like the S+ machines and being a tinkerer I thought it would be cool to upgrade to the newest BV. Thanks Rick for your input.

It is not all that bad for the S+, the only bill it doesn't take is the new $100, if you have a wba 12/13 for your S+.
