Print denom and Jackpot decals.
« on: April 14, 2021, 04:37:17 PM »
For any of you that have printed your own machine denom and jackpot decals, I was wondering what you printed them on?  When I print them on paper they look like trash.  Thanks for your help.

I use the InkJet Vinyl Decal material that comes in 8.5 by 11 inch sheets.

Once I print them off, I apply the vinyl decal to a piece of Transparency Film for rigidity.

Then just cut them out and you're good to go.

Where can I find the font or template to print these myself?

At one point someone had posted pre made templates for both.

Not exactly the IGT Font, but close enough.

I've used the font Peignot for some custom IGT art and it matches up perfectly. See the attached sample pic of art I created with Peignot, PhotoShop and Illustrator.

Very nice!  Much better match on the number 5!

Do you have a link to the vinyl decal paper you use?

And as a followup - How do you 'stick' the inserts to the back of the glass? - the ones I am trying to replace are stuck on.
The very few other pre-printed inserts I've purchased don't seem to have stick'em on the face like the originals. Clear double sided tape maybe?  Just curious, I could also just scotch tape it from the back, but that seems a bit gimpy....

I bought this from ebay and printed directly to it, then transferred/stuck the printed sheet to a piece of transparency film.

I just use clear Scotch tape to apply the insert once it's cut out.

My art is CMYK and those values are: C: 16%, M: 100%, Y: 100%. K: 7%. That translates to RGB as: R: 193, G: 32, B: 38. See attached pic for the actual values shown in Photoshop.

Thanks, I'm pretty close to that as well.  Once it's printed and on the glass it's too light.

Maybe my machine is older/dirty/discolored, etc.  I got a closer match with R: 150, G: 0, B: 0

Here it is, not quite finished. I've also discovered the white background is too white, and it doesn't match either.
So I'm looking for the right shade of paper for the background. Sort of an off white.

But I am getting closer.

Have you tried photo paper?

I'm open to suggestions, so far I've only tried the sticker paper mentioned above. (laser printer style)
I think photo paper might completely block any light shining through.

The print material whatever it turns out to be does need to have some translucence to it.

I have some photo paper, I'll try that next. There's a lot of options, I just need figuert out which one I like best. I'm in no hurry.

I sent mine out here:

https://posterprintshop.com/product/backlit-film/

and had it printed on the backlit film. I made more than just inserts so it made sense. I got round top glass and belly glass all in one sheet that I cut out and put in behind clear glass I had cut to fit. Lights up great but is just pressed against the glass by the frames, not adhered to it. I also had them run custom reel strips for back lighted reels and that works ok but not as well as the originals with the masking on the back so that only the symbols show lit.

Okay, Backlit film arrived.
Real quickly, it's pretty thick 7mil which is nice. One side is glossy white, one side is matte white.
It's designed for an inkjet, but I don't have one at home, so I ran it through my laser printer.
It printed just fine. Glossy side printed laser toner is easily scratched off, but works.
You could possibly change the paper thickness settings to get a better bond, but it's just not made for laser printers.

I would recommend this film, it's pretty nice. The color match to my glass is closer than plain white paper.

I'm still working on the colors, as it just doesn't pop the way I want. It's actually kind of dull........

I think I'll have better results using an inkjet, so we will try that next, along with the color settings from @clading listed above.
I attached a pic of it in my machine with printing on the matte side.
I also tried printing on the glossy side, but it looked way worse. I'm not sure why, the light just didn't diffuse through that direction very nicely.
