Universal MPU boards
« on: March 15, 2014, 09:08:42 PM »
Basically three different boards used in reel games.
1. 8116-A2
The 8116-A2 came out in the first Universal Slots in 1985. Game eprom usually a 2732 and Machine eprom a 27128. Sound eprom 2732, later two 2732's.
This board originally was used for coin-in and handle pull only. (no bet-one, max-bet buttons)
Wiring added for button play and button lights. Board could not support dollar bill validators.
Supports progressive meter pulses.
No respin or nudge games for this board.

1a. 8116-A2 Tournament Board; The tournament board had a black eight-pac dipswitch at location 7D instead of the black four-pac dipswitch. Beware; Four traces on the underside of board are cut to prevent coin acceptance and coin-out. They can be repaired.

2. 8800-A2MK
Came out in late 1980's. Had daughter board for dollar bill validators. Game eprom 27c256, Machine eprom 27c256, Sound eprom 27c256. Board supported respin and nudge games.
Very little info available on this board. (schematics, etc)
This board will work in earlier machines that had the 8116 board.

3. 94014-Main3 or Main4
Used exclusively for the Ultra Series slots. Circa 1995-97.
One machine chip served all games. Not sure if respin games were made. Nudge games yes.
User selectable nudge on mixed bars only and "third reel reach" feature.
Supported progressive pulses and two-way progressive communication. Used a JCM DVB-145 bill validator. Very little info on this board also.

Here are a few pictures of the three boards mentioned in the previous post.

Universal never used a remote ram chip so clearing the ram is easy.
Hold the reset button down (or three reset buttons on the 94014) while powering up the machine.
Thats it.
