IGT S+ COIN-IN OPTIC transmitters part number
« on: November 09, 2015, 08:41:31 PM »
Greetings,

I have been searching for replacement optic transmitters for a IGT S+ COIN-IN OPTIC board, I am getting the error code 21 that wont clear.

I was able to isolate the problem to the optic board optics. I would like to try and repair the board. Would anybody know what the part number is?

Many thanks.

I haven't found the part number for the optic parts yet, but replacement optic boards are as low as $5.99, so you may not want to spend a lot of time and money on parts, unless this repair is a learning experience.

Thanks for the link, I saw that earlier last week, I believe that is for a IGT s2000. My optical block has 3 Transmitters.

If your coin optic board is part number 753-040-00 or 753-045-00 for S+ model machine I've not had any luck finding a parts list for the board. Hopefully someone else here has some info. Do the optic parts have any marking or part numbers written directly on them, perhaps the backside?

Spin, Inc has some coin optic boards for $30, it is the one with the 5-pin connector. I believe there were some machines that used a board with an 8-pin connector.

use the input test to determine what is not working on the optic board, test 10_1.11_1 and 12_1.   I'll guess 10_1 does not change from a 1 to a 0, if that's the case, your optics are good, its Q-2 or Q-4 causing the problem, remove it and the optics will work again.

make sure you remove the right component!   Q-2 is also listed as the IR  optic emitter  itself,  Q-2  on one style board, Q-4 on the other style board, both a tiny Surface Mount Transistors, 3 legs.

Hope this helps

Jim- I'm curious, how does removing but not replacing one of the optic parts restore the board to working condition? Is it that the bad part causes the failure but it isn't actually needed for normal operation?

there is an explanation in the back of the S+ repair manual page 163  on how the circuit works. its a counter circuit to detect how many coins pass through the comp, and how many pass through the optics, when they are in sync, the transistor is off, which in turn allows the data to be sent to the cpu and let it know that a coin passed through the optic, when the transistor is on, it grounds the output of optic #1 , so the cpu will never see any activity by that optic, so it will not accept coins , register them  or anything else. then it will tilt  and display a 21 code some of the times. removing the transistor will remove the path so the optic can not be grounded.  it has no effect on the way the comp. works  or how the optics work. the machine will operate as advertised.

There have been some instances that the optic has been bad and caused the same code 21. in 15 years I have only replaced 2 optics.  nine times out of ten the problem is with the counting circuit and removing that transistor will correct the problem.

This modification came about many years ago, when S+ machines were first sold to brokers, the coin comp. were removed by the casino, they kept them because of the expense and because they were usually adjusted for their tokens. Again ,because of the cost factor and availability  it was less expensive to replace it with a mechanical acceptor, or an IMonex acceptor. in order for these to work in the machine, the counter circuit had to be disabled, this was the fast  and easy way to accomplish it. there were three types of optic boards, 5 pin had a counter (555) on it ,remove the diode next to the counter and it accomplished the same result, 10 pin  had two versions, one had listed as Q-2, the other type had it listed as Q-4, same component same function, same result.

Hope this explains it.

 Hello,

I just got done removing the surface mount transistor and am having the same results. ERROR 21

I got my multi-meter out to measure all three optics one of the optics is open, the other two read 1.11 and 1.12 on the diode setting.

I guess I will suck it up and buy the one on line for $45 unless somebody has any alternative suggestions....

$30 ?? at Spin Inc.

Also, if you put a WTB in the classifieds area there may be someone here with one for less than that. And you can contact the folks at Rudy's to see if they have one, they don't list everything on their website.
