« on: November 10, 2015, 08:02:25 AM »

I have a BB1 which I changed the backplane board.
It was working before and encountered aBV problem so i swapped a backplane to see if i could get the problem out.

The machine now says "sleeping forever"

Whats wrong and how do i fix it?

I would suggest putting the original backplane back in and troubleshoot the bv problem.  I can't say I've ever come across a "sleeping forever" message, that's a new one.  What were your symptoms with the BV?

Did you RAM clear the game when you changed the backplane?

The sleeping forever message has to do with the fact that you replaced the backplane.  I'm pretty sure you didn't perform a clear?  The backplane/mpu "marry" each other during the initial boot after a clear.  It is done for security reasons as the backplane has a copy of the accounting information that is also on the mpu, if they don't match, you get that error, or similar depending on version of OS (most of the time, it now says system Halted).

:1:   You need to clear the game they way it was first, before the swap. Then you can swap again and re-boot.

Ok,

Here is what I did. I took the machine off, replaced the backplane wih another one and tried the ram clear. The message came up when using both clear chips i have 1851 & 1810.

i understand that the mpu and backplane "marry' each other but i tried the ram clear and that is when i am getting the error not whilst trying to load the game.

So you need to re-install the old (original) backplane first, then run the clear process.  Then you can put the new backplane in and use the MPU that you just cleared. that should do it...........................but..............Clear it again before you load your game.

Pay close attention to the type of error that is triggering the failure. Sometimes the clear is unable to write to nvram on the backplane and it halts the system, in which case your backplane may be at fault.  I have heard of people having issues clearing a setup after swapping mpu's, especially if they have different sjurs.

That is prolly what is causing his issue.  The new backplane was prolly used with a different JUR and the mismatch is causing the snafu.

It was me at the beginning of the year that had the same issue after swapping BB2 for BB1 MPU without clearing the BB1 first.  Could not clear the system until I replaced the BB1 MPU and cleared it.  Then installed the BB2 and all was good.

See FAQ's at the top of the page.
