G20 AVP BARTOP
« on: May 24, 2014, 11:47:27 AM »
So we have 26 AVP G20 bars tops here @ The Grand. 16 of them have the native 8.2 software and 10 of them have the emulated Super Star Poker. We also run a progressive on all these. The progressive is by a company called Gaming Support. It is a SAS progressive. Sometimes it will go offline and all the games tilt with protocol errors then it recovers. I have 1 Super Star Poker that goes into a tilt and then goes Terminal Disabled. I was wondering how can I keep them from doing that. It's only one of the 10 that do this. I have check all the settings and it has the same setup as the rest of the Super Stars.

I was just looking for a way to set the game up so it won't go into TERMINAL DISABLED when the progressive would drop off line.
The system we use is SAS based.  There is a cable that plugs into the game on channel 2 via a RS-232 COMM board (Daughter Board).  That cable then goes to a SIB (System Interface Board) and that box is linked to the progressive controller via CAT 5 to a switch then to the controller.  So if the controller goes offline, or stops talking for a bit then all our 46 progressive games on the floor go into a PROTOCOL ERROR.  Now all the native games are dead, can't play any games until the progressive recovers ( that is a WHOLE other issue ).  The 10 Super Star games which are emulated just go link down on Double Double, but you can play any other game. Now just one out of 10 will go into the TERMINAL DISABLED.  We have replaced Daughter board, harness', CAT 5, and the SIB, and it still happens on just this game.  Just seems like it's a setting like soft and hard tilts on the BV or printer.

Only way to clear the tilt is to keychip it and clear ram (not the eeprom), then setup the progressive again.

All things being equal, I would have to suspect that the one game has something in it's local programming that is set differently than the other 9. I'd go through a line by line cross check with one of the other machines to verify it is set up the same as the others

That's why I am frustrated. I have a game next to it that I have done just that, line by line, double and triple checked by me and two other techs.

Think the next logical step is to completely clear the game ram and eeprom, and replace all of the components involved as well.  The daughter card, RS-232 cable, SIB box, and cat 5 cable. Then the game is 100% fresh.  Think I'll suggest that so we can do that on the next drop.  Just one of the constant issues we've had since we've open that annoys me that I want to fix.

Yeah, unless it got a software upgrade, or missed one, that the others got. I assume they all use the same license dongle and everything else is the same. Have you tried IGT for an answer? I don't have access to them so can't help you there, sorry. We have a couple members with AVP stuff, maybe they'll have other ideas

Well, IGT is usless.  Hate to say it but they can't tell me what the problem is either.  Hell, a lot of the problems we had when we open we had to figure out on our own. That's not just IGT though, that includes all the vendors. :banghead:

Hey there, chosmer.

You may want to consider also joining the folks at SlotTechForum.com.  While NLG is more tailored to the home hobbyist user (although we certainly appreciate having you here -- I'll have to come visit you at your casino next time I'm in Vegas!), the folks at Slot Tech Forum are typically more active real-life casino techs who might be able to better help you with this issue.

Aah, okay.  I wish I could help but I've never worked on an AVP.  Best of luck with your issue.

The only thing I can think of is if you're leasing the machines from IGT, get your slot manager to tell IGT to get their asses out there and figure out the problem, or to remove the machines from the bar and that your casino will talk to one of IGTs competitors to supply machines.  I suspect that might motivate IGT to actually find the issue.

I highly doubt they are leasing these given the info and a g-20 to boot.  Thousands of native american casinos and straight up full-blown heavy hitter casinos own machines.  The trend these days however is to just lease and leave the warehouses empty when the casino and patrons are done with them.  All the casinos keep what is called "House games" in stock in the warehouses to fill voids if needed.

Yeah, not leased.  Casino here owns about 90% of what is on the floor, other 10% is made up of trial games and participation.
