IGT Game King Multi-Denomination frozen screen
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:00:10 PM »
I just picked up a  IGT Game King Multi-Denomination Video Poker Machine. I bought it fairly cheap because previous owner didn't have time to fix. When I power up the machine, a game comes on the screen but will not let me do anything. Remaining cash shows $0.09. When I turn the reset key I get a blue box that reads "Attendant Menu" "Pending Tilts"  "None".
It will let me enter the Administrative Functions, even review the last 25 game, but when I exit that screen, I am back to the game that came up when I powered up the machine. I checked the battery, it is a 3v and the volt meter reads 2.8. Does anybody know a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

80% of the time it is a door switch or door optic that is not working.

Is there a "door open M" message on the screen?

Or a "door B"?

It could also be a bill acceptor door problem, make sure it is closed all the way and the can is seated all of the way in.

If there is a small micro switch inside the bill validator door you can cut the wires going to it and wire nut them together.

I am getting a "Door Open M" message on the screen. I checked the switches and they seem to be connected. Could one of them be faulty? Is there a way to check them or maybe by pass them?

If there are two switches one is for the service light that lights the inside of the machine when the door is open, sorta like a refrigerator light.

The other switch is the door switch.  First I would try pulling off the spade connector on each of the switches terminals one at a time and reinsert them.

Sometimes a good electrical contact between a connector and a terminal can fail over time, Simply re-seating the connection can fix that.

If that doesn't work try using a alligator jumper and jumper across the back of the switch and see if you are allowed to play a game. After one game the door M should disappear.

If neither of the switches are door related you may have door optics.

Also remember that the Belly Glass Door may also have a Switch which is also part of the Main Door circuit

Thanks for all your input. It was the main door. I thought maybe the micro-switch was bad so I switched them out with switches from another machine. That wasn't it. So, I started following the wires. I noticed that the two wires split up with one going to a connector with another wire and the connector was jumped with a small piece of wire. I traced the wires on the other switch and noticed they did the same. but on the connector there was no jumper. I put a small piece of wire in it like the other and problem solved. I was giving up on the switches being the problem and looking at the boards and software as the culprit when you mentioned the 80% that turned me back to the switches. So I got this machine for a song and it works perfect. Thanks again for all the input and quick responses. This curbed all the frustrations that seem to snowball on me every time I attempt these type of repairs. Have a Wonderful Day!
