Turned it on this morning & got this message on the small touchscreen. When I select the game & to default theme & press save, it shows no themes enabled & press exit it just goes back to the same above message, will I need to clear this machine to enable the proper game theme?

Most likely low batteries.  See if you can turn the jack pot reset key and go look at all the battery volts.  There are 4-- 2 in the pci card,  1-in lower main board and the nicad 3.6 volt mounted on the backplane board.  The first thing I would look at.  Once that is corrected you will have to re set the game.  The three button cell batteries are all 3V.  I have seen in most cases it winds up being one on the pci card--not both.

Guess that's the problem, only showing 21.2 NVRAM utilization

That sounds just like the storage space being used on hard drive.  You need to turn the key and go to support--You will find batt. voltages there I believe.

It's in the brain box,  Your gray ribbon cable plugs to it.  Be careful as the pins are delicate.  That card has 2 batteries on it that directly affect navram etc.  If your clock/date is ok the lower battery is ok for now.  I back probe all the batteries before removing and replace as needed.  The ni-cad on back plane Charges and the machine looks at it's voltage every 10 seconds.  If it falls below say 3.3-3.2 volts it will have to be left on to see if it charges,  If not you would have to replace it.
