Screen Tearing?
« on: May 05, 2021, 03:06:16 PM »
Im new to video slots.  I know that LCD can have issues with fast scrolling images.  I was wondering if it's normal to see screen tearing while the reels spin?  I notice on my MLD a thin tear line that moves up the screen when the reels spin.  Once it gets to the top it then restarts at the bottom.  It's not a big deal, just wondering if this is common.

Can't say I've seen that on mine, can you post a picture of what you mean, or a video?

Is there a way to change the refresh rate for a mld display?  Im thinking my issue is related to the rate being off.  I notice the issue happens on the back screen if it's a 3d game, and the front screen on non 3d games.

Does your MPU have the dedicated video card?  Some games will work much better with the video card.

I just got the machine like 2 weeks ago.  What is the easiest way to fin out?  Also what is the best Video card I can put in the G23?  Also is it an easy install? Just turn off, install, turn on?

If you plug the monitor into the ports that are built-into the mpu, then you don't have a graphics card.  The graphics card is installed on the leftmost slot and has two DVI ports on it.  You can only use cards meant for the platform, standard pc video cards do not work.  The best one to use is the E4690.

Ok, so I checked.. I do NOT have a video card.

Is this the card? IGT AVP 3.0 Video Card Radeon E4690 | eBay

How do I remove brain box to install?

Also is it just a simple install and then power back on with cables going to card?

Yes, that is the one.  And yes, you just plug in the video card and plug the monitors into the card, no configuration needed, it just works.  Also the bottom plug is for the bottom monitor and top plug is for the top monitor.  You will need a dvi-vga converter or a dvi-vga cable to connect the MLD monitor as it only has vga inputs.

Removing the MPU on a G23 is relatively simple.  You unplug all the cables (take a photo before you unplug everything so you have a guide to put it back together).  Open the little door where the secured USB ports are at (where you plug in the ekey) and there will be a little circular plunger on the bottom right that you pull up to release the MPU from the cabinet as you pull the mpu toward you.  It slides in and out through a pair of rails on the bottom.  Once you have the mpu out, there's another plunger inside the same area top right that you will pull down in order to release the top cover.  As you pull down on the plunger, pull the cover forward towards you and it should easily slide out.  Then install the VGA card like you would on a PC and reverse the process to hook everything back up.  I usually like to remove all power from the cabinet while doing this type of thing.

So after installing the new card the line moves the opposite way and faster than before.  It now scrolls down about 2x as fast as before.

It doesn't sound like tearing then.  Tearing is the when the image "Splits" like there is a line and the image is shifted to one side or the other.  It looks like what you have is some sort of interference.  Have you tried changing the vga cable?  If not the monitor's power supply?

I just added a pic of the issue.  I don't know how to add video.  I did just order the cable u linked above to see if that solves the issue.  Thanks.

It only happens on the "reel" area?  If it does, then it's not interference.  Do all games do that?

It happens on all games. always in reel area on front or back mld screen.  It does not happen every spin, more like once every 4-5 spins.  It is also noticeable on video transitions.  It seems like any sort of moving screen gives it a chance of happening.

So I replaced the VGA cable with 3 different ones (I bought a few to be safe) and all 3 different ones gave the same exact issue.

I am not familiar with these slots.

From a computer perspective - This sounds like a frequency issue that I used to get when shipping equipment to the UK.
50htz vs 60htz.  The computer putting out a 60htz signal and the monitor getting oversync'ed and not sure what to do.
Is there a setting on either the monitor or the compute portion.

You might also Try grounding the monitor chassis and you may want to ground the shield on the cable to the chassis as well.

Will this issue persist even when you're on the machine settings ? Or just on actual gameplay ? Any specific games ? My first guess would be to change that VGA cable but clearly you got no luck there. Maybe the resolution on your monitor is not up-to-par with some of your games. Maybe you can toy around with the key control board behind the monitor and get it to a sweet spot. My personal take

I also notice it when I scroll threw the games in the GK game menu.  It only "shows" it self when the picture moves.  On the back of the mld monitor the only option I get that changes anything is clock and phase, I don't see any difference when changing these.
