Why is BB2 Game Chest software so much more expensive than BB3?

BB2... $600 - $700

BB3... $150 - $175

Is it hard to convert a BB2 to be able to run BB3 software?

The bb3 "chests" that you are probably looking at are HD14 and the other Illinois chests.  They run without dongles, so people sell copies.  The game chests HD 1-8 (I believe it goes to are about the same amount of money, they also use DRM dongles like the bb2 game chests.

Yeah those are the Illinois Lotterty terminal sets.  They are not dongle based, notice how they don't show the CF cards since they are not selling original sets (Can't even say I've ever seen a real original set).  The one shown on the bb2 cabinet has the cpunxt3.x mpu inside them, the game will not work on a bb2 mpu. It also probably has the cabinet mod so your can run blade games on the bb2 cabinet with the CPUNXT3.x mpu.

The cost is a power harness and the mpu, should be able to find both for under $800 at current prices.  The blade games will require the emotive controller, but there's a backplane modification that will make the cabinet think it has one.  You may also need to do a cabinet mod for some bb3 games that look for a specific cabinet type.  There's a thread or two here describing the conversion.
