Pop Quiz #2
« on: February 02, 2015, 10:57:01 PM »

Pop Quiz #2.

1.  You're looking at a machine to buy, there is no power available anywhere, and you want to see the reels spin before you pay cash for the machine.  Name 3 ways to get the reels to spin, without power.

2.  Your machine suddenly develops a pay problem.  It pays fine for a cherry, and then doesn't pay anything.  When you hit two cherries, it only paid 3 coins.  Next you hit oranges, and it only paid 5 coins.  3 plums only pays four.  3 plums again pays nothing.  What is wrong?

3.  Name the only 2 switches that could cause the symptoms in question #2.

Bonus question...How can you tell what is wrong from outside the machine?

Well here goes, my best:
Question 1: I know two out of three: On the right side of the inside of the machine lift up on the armature latch assembly while pulling back on the latch pawl assembly, this releases the handle and it can be pulled.
Push in on the “U” shaped link and pin assembly which should start the reels spinning.
Question 2:  Sounds to me like the wiper arm on the payout board is not fully resetting.
Question 3. The “B” switch could be causing the problem
Bonus: Look at the lights. If the lamps are on that will tell you if the fuses are OK and if voltage is getting to the lights.  Pull the handle and listen for the lock out coil to activate.

rdaniel, very good.
1a. Pull forward and hold the top of the Lock Pawl Assembly (in your manual Page 84, part #24), or
1b. Push and release the handle coil armature ( page 86, part #6) which does the same thing as 'a' above...or
1c. Exactly as you said, pull reel mech and push on the pump arm with vigor until it kicks.  Excellent!!!

2. Either the payout counter zero switch, or the Reel mech B switch are not closing.  This is a CLASSIC example of the hopper/payboard not resetting after a pay.

3. See above, the zero and B switches are the ONLY two switches in the hopper reset circuit.  Either of them not closing will lead to short pays and eventual no pays as the payboard wiper fingers advance, and can never reset.

Bonus Question --
When the payboard wipers step one step, also a pawl is unlatched (part #29 page 107) that allows a certain feature light to light up.  Of course this is the winner paid light.  If you pull the handle for a new game, both the payboard resets, and also the winner paid light turns off.  If the light stays on, there is a good chance the hopper did not reset.

Good job...karma karma.
