956 jackpot only / stepper ?
« on: March 01, 2016, 03:54:07 PM »
Model 956, trying to bring back to life.  I will start at the end of a 5 coin play cycle.   You can see in pic the belly awards lit line 5 coins were played.
To start next cycle, first coin should reset award column all the way to left most column.  Instead it steps backwards to either the 4th or third column and something is buzzing.  Each additional coin steps pay line back to one coin (1st column) buzzing stops. Then each coin steps it back to the right till what would be 5th coin.  Anymore coins return to gravy bowl as it should.

Ok. Cleaned switches at handle and stepper disc contacts.   I can see solenoid at stepper by looking between hopper and handle side wall, down low.   Coin in and plunger goes in solenoid.  Solenoid buzzes till plunger returns to out position.   After cleaning contacts and two drops 3/1 oil on plunger things are better.   After playing any amount of coins, then first coin brings it to two coins played, it will buzz for a couple seconds and go to first coin award column on far right.  Not sure if spring is weak (doesnt appear weak) or a switch is slow.

I think I got it.   Took hopper out again for 20th time (hope its beau connector survives this).  I cleaned the stepper contacts again there were two short ones in back i missed.   Since i had the hopper out i cleaned switches i could easily get at.  Using business card pieces 1/4" x card width sprayed with contact cleaner.  Now after any amount coins played, 1st coin instantly brings award line to 1 coin played no buzzing.

Thanks guys, I would not have tried to fix if it wasnt for all great posts on this site.

Hope I am not jumping the gun. But its working.

so nice to see another 956, mine is still not doing as it should, spend some hours on it today, I might ask you for some pictures to compare parts if that's ok.
