I would check your door optics.  Use a digital camera or a camera phone and look at the little emitter, it should be pulsing at a rapid rate when viewed through the digital camera viewfinder or your smartphone.  With machine powered on, open the door and look at the door optics as described above and then report back what you see.

Do you have any codes in the winner paid window, i.e. 12, 3300, etc? Do you have any numbers in the display at all? When you close the door, do the digits go out on the display and then reappear after a few seconds or do they stay on after closing the door? Are the 2 wires inside of the bill validator cash box door tied together? Is there an optic in the belly door that may be open and not closing properly or tied together?

To Lemans 1969: there are no codes showing in the winner paid box. after cycling the power and shutting the door the credits window shows a 0 for a moment then goes out. the coins played shows a flashing 0. I found the two wires in the cash box and checked the connection  [separated the wires then installed a new wire nut] After cycling the power I now have the bill validator making its running sound after the power is turned on. the BV then shows a bright blue light in the very center of the bottom row of icons. It is on for just a second then the insert bills starts fading from the outside in. it is fading in green. at the same time this is occurring the credit box displayed a 0 for just a moment then goes out. the coins played begins to flash a 0. neither the BV or the coin acceptor will accept anything. Also the green light is off. on the back of coin slot. once again thank you for the much needed help

The green light on the coin comparator is not going to light up when the door is open. That is normal on the S+machine. It sounds like the machine is ready for play though. Have you checked your limits to make sure they are set up? Is your denomination also set up? Not sure which game eprom you have in the machine, but open the door and push the small white self test button normally located next to the on/off switch and you will go into your menu. Then push the self test button until you get a number 6 in the coins played display. The number in the winner paid is your denomination. If there is no denomination set, then push the spin reel button to change the denomination of the machine. Then once you have the denomination in place, push the bet max button to the far right to hold it in memory and push the self test button again. This will change the coins played to a 7 and you  will have a number in the winner paid again. Normally, depending on what game chip you have, this will be your credit limit. Make sure it's as high as it will go. You can change it by pushing the spin reel button to increment the digit and turning the jackpot reset key will change to the next digit so that you can increase it also. Once you have the new value in place, push the bet max button again to hold it and then push the self test button again to go the next limit value. On most game eproms, the second value under 7 will appear in the credits window and this will be your bill validator limit. Make sure it's at it's highest also. Then hold it into place by pushing the bet max button. If your denomination is not set or your limits are too low, it will not take a bill in. Does the bv unit even attempt to pull it in? If not, you may have a weak power supply to your WBA unit also. it's the metal box attached to the left hand side of the bv unit. Hope this helps, April

Not taking coins. Do you have a compare coin in the coin comparator?

The coin mounts between the two circular sense coils and is pinched against the left side edge of the comparator.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

If you are not in the middle of a pay tilt you can jumper out the hopper optics to see if the game clears to an insert coin condition by removing the hopper completely and jumper the upper right pin on the machine side hopper plug (pin 8) to the middle left pin (pin 9) then close the door to see if the error goes away. Don't play the machine with this jumper in place as a payout would produce a coin out time out.

The pin numbers can be seen if you remove the plug and look at the back of the plug.
The numbers are stamped into the plastic body.

There are only 6 pins on the machine side hopper plug but they are numbered.

7   8

9  10

   0 (large pin hole)

11 12

Left to right, top to bottom.

The coin out optic is pin 9 which is machine ground and pin 8 which is optic output.

Optic output is normally at ground level when no coin is blocking it because the optic transmitter IR signal is hitting the receiver and saturating it's opto-transistor making the output (no coin blocking) at ground level.

When a coin (out) is blocking the optic the output is high and the opto- transistor is turned off.

If the machine clears to insert coin then you know your hopper optic is bad.

Caution, pins 11 and 12 will have 120VAC on them when the machine is trying to turn on the hopper motor so don't get your test jumpers in the wrong hole.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Everything is working now except the DBV in the menu I have it set four 5.0 8.1 9.1  it accepts the bills and then spits it back out the lights on the front are working.  But it just won't except the bill but.  Everything else works good.  25¢ excepts this.  But takes no bills.                                                   Also is somebody has a spread sheet on how to set the menu 7.1 7.2 7.3 8 for Home settings.  machine S plus 1048 chip 5 coins play wild cherry machine IGT.  The hopper holds 800 coins.  I'm trying to set it.  Under 20 coins it pays back from the hopper anything over goes to credit.Thank you

If you want the credits to go to the machine to play off, then you need to set it on 5 2. You also need to make sure that you have a denomination set up in the menu under 6. If no denomination is set up, then the bv unit doesn't know what to accept. Also keep in mind, the bv units on the S+ machine will not take a lot of the newer bills. So if you are trying to feed it newer bills, it may reject because of the version of software. You can also check the bill limit and credit limits in the menu under 7. If the credit limit and bill limits are too low, it will not take bills. Last but not least, if the power supply is weak on the bv unit, not sure if you have a WBA or a DBV, but it may be enough power to cycle the unit, but reject it because it's not powerful enough to pull it in. Just some extras to check. If you have a DBV unit, those are VERY particular. Everything has to be exactly right, alignment, clean optics, sensors, rollers, etc. for the unit to work properly.
