bally EM 3 reel slot machine arm coil not working

I picked up a bally em slot machine. I believe it is around 1977. It was not working. I have every thing working except for the coli for the handle release. It coins up but does not energize the coil for the slot arm . I checked the coil voltage but not seeing any voltage. I can manually activate the coil and the arm releases. Can any one help with this issue. Thanks.

I have noticed a timer with a red light behind the coin hopper. Does any one know how to set it up and is it related to my problem.

Sound like your safety time has been tripped? This is caused when the hopper does not have enough coins to finish paying out the coins owed. To reset the safety timer you have to push the flat bar that runs under the hopper. Push it towards the back of the cabinet. This will reset the safety timer and the red light should turn off. If your game doesn’t have the lever, then remove the hopper and push the white button next to the red light.

Thanks, No voltage on the solenoid coil to release arm. How do I find source fo power.

The handle circuit runs through the coin switch on the side of the reels. If your coin switch is closing when the coins are inserted, then I would think that the contacts are dirty or not making a good connection.. Best way to clean them is with ribbing alcohol and a piece of folded paper,, wet the paper then put it between the closed contacts and drag the wet paper between the contacts. Just because a contact looks to be closed, doesn't mean it's making a good connection..

I have cleaned the contact switches but still have the same issue with the coil to release the arm. When I coin the switch it does not energize the coil to release the arm.If i manually trip the coil it releases the arm. It is not getting power to the coil.

Then you need to check the handle coil with a meter to see if it’s good. You could have a bad connection with the beau plug that connects the reels to the cabinet. You also could have a bad coin switch on the door. Sounds like you might need to start tracing wires with a meter. There is just no one cause for your problem.

So everything on the game checks out. Coils,switches, contacts, connectors all look good. found two wires on the front door that go no where. I think I'm done. I will be listing for sale and moving on to my next project. Thanks for all your help.
