Changing a Bally 5500 from a dollar to a .25 machine problem
« on: January 08, 2020, 10:39:05 AM »
I did a clear after a battery change & got into the menu mode, when I get to the denomination part (10) it's still set at 9 for dollar. When I try to change it to 11 for .25 it won't change & shows Err. Could that be because the software only supports 1.00 as far as credits goes?

What kind of clear did you do?  Complete,  Full, or Partial? Some levels of clearing retain certain game settings. To change the denomination, a Complete SafeRAM clear must be performed.

With the clear chips installed and after clearing, do you get the clear symbol on your door display following this procedure: SafeRAM Clear Procedure
For a Complete SafeRAM Clear,
turn the machine power OFF. Unlock and remove the MPU
Assembly. Remove the Main EPROMs from U12 and U15
and replace them with the corresponding Clear Chips.
Upon ensuring that the MPU Assembly is firmly seated
into the Backplane Board, turn the machine power ON
while depressing the appropriate buttons.
Complete - Press and hold the PSEUDO COIN and
TEST buttons, then switch power ON. When the message
CH C displays in WIN PAID, release the PSEUDO COIN and
TEST buttons. The CH C message is followed by CL C.

I have never done a s5500 but on the s6000 you need to set the switches to change your denomination.
I change out the switch according to the service manual and do a clear.
I can not change the denomination in the 11d menu.

That gives you something to look into till someone that knows chimes in...

You change the denomination by the Dip Switch and then do a clear for it to accept the new settings.

Ok I've changed the dip switch setting & did a complete clear, removed the ram clear jumper, slid the main board back into the machine. When I turn it on now the 3 reels lock up and all the buttons on the deck are kit and it just freezes up from there & I can't get into the settings menu under 11d. What could be causing that issue?
