I-game+ LCD 17" Monitor Stain ?
« on: June 02, 2020, 04:17:19 PM »
Hey all,

Have a 17"LCD monitor for an I-Game that seems like it is stained or something. It could maybe a screw pressing up against the bezel or some pixel issues maybe ? Those are my best bets. Havent been able to test the touch as it is still giving me other errors I have to clear, but im certain it works. You can barely see it on the game screen but it is still a sort of noticeable. I appreciate any assistance or inout I can get ! Drop your knowledge !! :hail:  Attached are some pics.. :EmoticonHelp4:

With the monitor off, if you shine a light at an angle and see a white haze, then there's casino gunk stuck between the lcd and the touchscreen glass.  If you cannot see it, then it's liquid that spilled inside the lcd panel.  That's what the laptops I get from people at the office that drop their laptops in puddles.

Tried the flashlight trick.. I can see it a bit when I flash the light on this one. However tried doing it on one thats worse (top and bottom stains) and nothing shows. If its liquid, can that be cleaned also or is that one a gonner ?

It's a lot of work but the screens DO separate.

A: Remove the LCD from the machine and take out all the screws on the frame.
B: Disconnect the touchscreen ribbon cable from the touchscreen controller board.
C: Mark the four LCD ballast power Molexes with a fine point & disconnect them from the ballast circuit board.
D: Disconnect LCD signal Molex from circuit board and any ground wires.
E: Now, remove all the screws holding the LCD around the frame.
F: Peel off the black "hockey" tape from the edges.
G: With a sharp blade, cut thru the rubbery sealant along all sides until the touchscreen comes apart.
H: Clean all the glass with plain ol' Windex and paper towels.
I: Stick some double-sided tape along the edges about 3/16" wide all the way around.
J: Press the touchscreen back onto the double-sided tape.
K: Stick back on some electrical tape instead of "hockey" tape. Electrical tape is much cheaper and does the same job.
L: Shoot out from fans and circuit boards with a can of compressed air.
M: Lots of little screws to put back in, a few Molex connectors back where you marked them before but your LCD will look brand new!

If the liquid is inside the lcd monitor (as opposed to between the monitor and the touchscreen), there's really no solution without destroying the panel.  If it is between the touchscreen glass and the lcd, the above post describes the procedure.  From what you describe, I think it is inside the lcd monitor, so you will either have to live with it or get another monitor.  I would try the procedure to clean the inside of the touchscreen glass as described in the previous post, you really have nothing to lose if you are careful.

I had nothing to do one day, thought I'd clean between the touch screen and LCD - now I'm looking for a screen! My suggestion, live with it or be very, very careful!

The panel can be disassembled, you have be very careful though, one scratch on the ribbon cables to the TFT screen will ruin it, then the diffusers can be cleaned with glass cleaner and the TFT screen is cleanable with glass cleaner but once again be extremely careful with it.
