I purchased this slot as non working but the previous owner said it used to work, lol.  I found it had a dead battery and replaced it.  When I turn it on the displays says "Change Game 2".  When I press the diagnostic button it says "need clear".  So, I purchased a ram clear chip off of ebay.  When I install it and turn it back on, nothing happens. display is blank.  (Yes, it is in the correct socket, correct orientation).  I can put the original chip back in and it goes back to "Change game 2".  One thing I noticed on the PCB though is that the 8 pin XU27 is missing.  Is this normal?  If not, does anyone have one to sell?  Thanks for your time.

XU27 is empty on my boards as well, so that's likely not an issue.  Your XU13 is empty and all mine are populated.  I'm not sure what that chip is or what it does, mine are all covered in labels...  May not be needed for your game since it's one of the early WMS 400 games made, but not sure.

The clear chip procedure should show the denomination on the credit display after performing the clear.  I don't remember if you need to press the diag button on the card cage or not, can't hurt.  But if you're just getting 'nothing happens' consistently then I'd suspect the clear chip is bad.
